English Tighnari voice actor Elliott Gindi will not be reprising the character. MiHoYo have confirmed plans to re-record and recast the role.
Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo have responded to community backlash and confirmed that the English voice actor for Tighnari, Elliot Gindi, will no longer be voicing the character following allegations of online sexual harassment.
MiHoYo have also confirmed they plan to recast and re-record all of the character's voicelines with a new voice actor.
"After communications with the voice recording agency, we hereby confirm that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari will no longer be voicing the character in subsequent versions due to a breach of contract," said MiHoYo on Twitter.
Tighnari's voice actor Elliott Gindi: "I am deeply sorry to those I hurt."
Elliott Gindi's position had come under fire following the release of a online document which appeared to present evidence of sexual harassment and sexually explicit texts sent to fans. Gindi confirmed the conversations shared in the document were genuine, but denied any intentional grooming of minors.
"I am deeply sorry to those I hurt. It was never my intention to hurt anyone. I tried to keep it above board. I thought everything was consensual and safe. I tried to tell myself I could make it ethical with clear communication and boundaries," said the Tighnari voice actor Elliott Gindi in his apology on Feb. 8, 2023.
The document and Gindi Elliott's reply sparked an immense reaction from the Genshin Impact community, with many calling for the English voice actor to be replaced. This has now come to pass, with the developer planning to recast the English voice actor role for Tighnari.
"At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording. We will gradually replace Tighnari's existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements. Thank you for your support, Travelers!"
The change will only affect the English Tighnari voice actor lines in Genshin Impact. The decision has been positively received on social media, despite a few cheeky requests for Primo Mail as an apology.
Tighnari is a relatively new character to Genshin Impact, joining the title in August, less than six months ago.
