Reaching the grand final is already a wonderful progress for Team Spirit in 2026. However, their main challenge is exceptionally tough, as the Team Vitality players certainly want to earn this fourth consecutive tournament win.

The Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports event Intel Extreme Master Rio 2026 (IEM Rio 2026) concludes with an epic clash of Team Spirit and Team Vitality. To reach this grand final, both trophy contenders went through losses but defeated big opponents.

Spirit versus Vitality in the grand final of CS2 IEM Rio 2026

This season has not been too successful for Team Spirit. They sure were in the top 8 at big events, but the level of these players promises more.

Vitality won three previous tournaments they participated in. They are the top favorites on CS2 betting platforms to win IEM Rio 2026. Esports is always unpredictable, though, and everything will be decided on the server.

Team Spirit at IEM Rio 2026: A lot to prove

This tournament is certainly the time to show the effect of the roster shifts for Team Spirit. They were in one group with Team Vitality, and we had a chance to see their clash earlier — but Spirit lost to Falcons and were sent to the lower brackets.

Still, Team Spirit had good wins over Team Liquid and G2 Esports to advance to the playoffs. Surprisingly, Spirit had difficulties against Red Canids in the group stage of  IEM Rio 2026.

In the final brackets, Spirit defeated MOUZ once again. Someone inevitably stops MOUZ from winning tournaments.

Team Vitality are mighty legends, but they are not undefeatable

One loss in the group stage showed that beating Vitality is still possible. Falcons won the upper final with a 2:1. Sure, the match wasn’t too crucial, as both teams were already in the playoffs.

Beyond that, Team Vitality defeated RED Canids and G2 Esports. In the playoffs, Vitality repeated their BLAST Open Rotterdam grand final victory over NAVI.

The semifinal at IEM Rio 2026 was against the local heroes, FURIA. Vitality did not hesitate to break the Brazilian dream and win with a 2:0.

Falcons did that again

A somewhat weird tradition for Team Falcons in CS2 is to take the hopes of their fans high and then crash them. It’s been happening for ages at this point, and IEM Rio is no exception.

Falcons defeated Spirit and Vitality in the group stage. Then, they just lost to Spirit with very little competition on two maps. It’s another tournament without trophies, and rumors about soon-coming roster changes can be true — the name of Finn “karrigan” Andersen was mentioned as a potential candidate.

A good tournament for NAVI and MOUZ

These teams can be proud of their runs at CS2 IEM Rio 2026, but for pretty different reasons.

MOUZ had a drastic drop in results. Not only did they not qualify for the playoffs at ESL Pro League Season 23 and BLAST Open Spring 2026, but they also lost to underdog teams: FUT Esports and 9Z.

Being in the top 6 is a decent result with such a record. It still would be a disaster if MOUZ were glad to have such achievements. MOUZ defeated Legacy and Aurora at this tournament. They lost to FURIA and Spirit.

NAVI won the EPL Season 23, and they battled against Team Vitality in the grand final of BLAST Open in Rotterdam. They lost to Vitality in the quarterfinal of IEM Rio 2026, but that’s an honorable loss for any team at the moment.

FURIA to amaze the Brazilian crowd

The most recent tournaments were not exceptional for FURIA. In a way, they follow the steps of MOUZ, not qualifying for the playoffs.

In Rio de Janeiro, the entire country cheers for FURIA, and we can feel that in their results. FURIA defeated NAVI and MOUZ to reach the semifinal. They lost to Team Vitality, sure, but the maps were really close.

The break in the professional Counter-Strike is going to be short after IEM Rio 2026. The next big event is BLAST Rivals Spring 2026, happening from April 29 to May 3.

This tournament has a different format, as it features only the top team. For the viewers, it’s a chance to see the best players in action again.
