Midnight Society, DEADROP developers and formerly associated with DrDisrespect, has announced it is closing for good.
Founded by Guy "DrDisrespect" Beahm and industry veterans such as Robert "fourzertwo" Bowling, Midnight Society was meant to shake up the very foundation of multiplayer gaming. Well, its IP known as DEADROP never truly saw the light of day and the studio has announced it is closing up shop.
This games after a handful of streams and tests from some big names and DrDisrespect himself. Then we all know what happened with the old doctor and his removal from Twitch and the studio. That was seemingly the nail in the coffin for Midnight Society.

Midnight Society shuts down after just three years
Starting from the beginning, Midnight Society introduced its game DEADROP. It was a bit of an extraction shooter mixed with a battle royale style setting. It was meant to be a vertical shooter, where players started low and fought their way upward.
It came under fire for some of its microtransactions and its NFT shilling. And that fire spread once the news of DrDisrespect having inappropriate Twitch messages with a minor was revealed. DEADROP was dead in the water after that.
When the two-time made his unsightly return to streaming on YouTube, he still mentioned Midnight Society in his description and other socials. We reached out for a comment at the time and Bowling, the Studio Head, reassured that Beahm has nothing to do with the studio or its game.
Things fall on two sides of the fence here. Beahm's involvement in any capacity prior made some folks completely turn away from Midnight Society and DEADROP. His lack of involvement was a reason others moved on, as they continued to support him for whatever reason despite his confirmed misconduct.
After all of that, no one really heard about DEADROP or had any idea what Midnight Society was up to. Now, we all know they were gearing to shutter their doors for good. Here's the statement posted via the studio's official X account:
Today, we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers contributing to our new IP DEADROP.
We are actively seeking other game studios that would be interested in offering employment opportunities to our talented team members.
If you know anyone who's hiring please forward this message to them or DM us for direct intros.
We express our sincere gratitude to each and every one of our community members and deeply sorry we were unable to reach our ultimate goal.
So, that's that. They're shutting down, but good on them for trying to find a place for their team to move on to. It's currently unknown whether the DEADROP IP will be picked up by another studio, if the game will remain active, or if it is officially done for as well.
