Game Informer closes after 33 years
On social media, Game Informer made a post announcing its closure after 33 years. "After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer," the post stated.
The announcement continued, noting how it shared an incredible journey with its loyal readers over the years. It then thanked readers for being a part of the gaming journey.
"While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we’ve cultivated together will continue to live on." the post stated. "Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end."

Game Informer layoffs
According to Kotaku, Game Informer staff members had a meeting on Aug. 2 with GameStop's vice president of human resources. For context, Game Informer is owned by GameStop.
In the meeting, the staff were "told the publication was closing immediately, they were all laid off, and would begin receiving severance terms," Kotaku reported. The report also stated that at least one staff member was in the middle of a work trip during the meeting.
