The trailer kicks off with Liu Kang becoming a keeper of time who's free to craft a new era of peace. This means a restart in history. According to the Mortal Kombat 1 lore, this peace is also being threatened by a surprise enemy. Therefore, he must use his experience and wisdom to save Earthrealm and reality itself.
Next, the video goes into the Earthrealm versus Outworld conflict before showcasing some gameplay. Kameo fighters also take the spotlight, arriving just in time to deliver harsh attacks alongside some main fighters.

A new era also means new alliances. In the official launch trailer, Sub-Zero is with Scorpion and they call each other brothers. Meanwhile, Mileena has a disease called Tarkat, leading to a rift between her and Kitana.
After more gameplay footage, Liu Kang dukes it out against Shang Tsung and finishes the battle. In typical Mortal Kombat fashion, the fatality gets bloody.
