MK1 reveals Reptile, Ashrah, Havik, and Sareena at EVO 2023

The worst kept secret in Mortal Kombat history became reality at EVO 2023.

A special Mortal Kombat 1 announcement occurred during the EVO 2023 fighting game tournament. While many knew what to expect, the game officially welcomed fan-favorite ninja Reptile to the MK1 roster alongside Havik, Ashrah, and Sareena.

The trailer was stunning; we are here to break down everything that happened.

Reptile, a.k.a Syzoth, acid slides into MK1

Ed Boon’s blatant teasers became a reality on the final day of EVO 2023. The creative director all but announced Reptile before the worldwide reveal. Still, Reptile's arrival delivered in every manner.

There are two camps of Reptile fans; those who like his ninja form and those who prefer some lizard components. Well, MK1 offers the best of both worlds.

MK1's iteration of the character incorporates both versions of Reptile. The trailer showcased him shape-shifting during combos, making for some incredible moments.

Ashrah, Havik, and Sareena jump from the 3D era

Reptile grabbed all the headlines following the latest MK1 reveal, but three other additions appeared in the trailer. Ashrah and Havik are officially confirmed for main roster positions, while Sareena is a Kameo fighter.

Ashrah and Havik debuted during the 3D era in Mortal Kombat: Deception. Neither has been a playable character since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

In Mortal Kombat 1, Ashrah is agile and utilizes a sword for her primary offense. On the other hand, Havik is a brute with quite an arsenal, including his own arm, which he can remove and use as a weapon.

Lastly, Sareena, originally from Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, delivered Kameo offense. Although she only appeared in a Gameboy version of Deadly Alliance and Armageddon, Sareena is back.

The trailer featured an extensive look at Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik in MK1, more Kameo gameplay, and some grotesque yet incredible Fatalities.
