Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite’s Godzilla update!

Godzilla will soon arrive on the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 map, but when? Epic Games has recently confirmed when the event will begin and confirmed that the giant reptile will be a playable character in Fortnite matches. With a bridge destroyed and massive footprints visible, this article answers the question of when Godzilla is coming to Fortnite and what you can expect.

Godzilla arrives in Fortnite

The Godzilla experience is now live in Fortnite, meaning you have a 20% chance to become the Kaiju, depending on your lobby. If you have the correct Fortnite match, a portal will appear randomly, and the first player to go through it will respawn as Godzilla.

Although Epic Games has not revealed a start time, we expect the Godzilla update to emerge around 9 a.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 17. The developers confirmed this start date, which coincides with unlocking the Godzilla Battle Pass tab. Fortnite updates usually go live around 9 a.m. ET, but we expect to learn more over the next few hours.

Once enabled, players must scramble to a Rift to become Godzilla. The first one through will become a giant, and the others in the lobby must work to take him down. Although we don't know about his health or damage, it's safe to assume that the Kaiju will be dangerous and challenging to conquer.

Everything else we know about the Godzilla update

Rather than a traditional Mythic item, Epic Games has confirmed anyone in a given Fortnite match can become Godzilla. As a recent blog post stated, there's a "special chance" that a portal will appear on the map, meaning it won't happen every game.

Only the first player through the portal can become Godzilla. Those piloting the Kaiju can Roar to reveal nearby opponents, Stomp to inflict damage, and utilize the reptile's iconic Heat Ray.

Those attacking Godzilla can deal damage by focusing on his weak spots. You can also knock off "Godzilla Fragments," which are consumable, giving you 40 health and three dash charges. Whichever player deals the most damage to Godzilla will earn the Godzilla Medallion, which grants a recharging dash ability. They will also receive the Exotic Burst Quad Launcher.

If you are struggling to wait, you can purchase Mechagodzilla and Kong from the Item Shop on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. ET.
