PGL has announced the venue and format for the PGL Antwerp RMR events.

PGL’s Bucharest Studios will host the 3 RMR events for qualification to PGL Antwerp 2022. This will be the first CS: GO event in the venue since the EU Minor for ELEAGUE Major Boston. It’s fitting that an RMR cycle that more closely resembles the minors will be the return to glory for the studio.

14 teams have been directly invited to the RMRs based on their performance at the PGL Stockholm Major. Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses would’ve also received invites but they made 3 or more changes to their roster, thus forfeiting the slot.

As previously announced by Valve, 3 RMR will send representatives in Antwerp: Europe (Europe+CIS), Americas (North America + South America), and Asia (Asia + Oceania). For each region, PGL will host RMR tournament/s at the PGL Studios as follows: 2 for Europe, 1 for Americas, and 1 for Asia.

  • Americas RMR – April 11-14
  • Asia RMR – April 15 – 16
  • EU RMR A – April 17 – 20
  • EU RMR B – April 21 – 24

Open qualifiers start in February

With the Closed Qualifier system being scrapped, any team not directly invited to the RMR will have to battle it out in the open qualifiers. This means teams such as Liquid, EG, OG, BIG will all have to run the gauntlet in the OQ.

Qualifiers for EU start first with 19 slots on the line:

EU Open Qualifier 1:

  • February 19-20
  • 5 Slots

EU Open Qualifier 2:

  • February 26-27
  • 5 Slots

EU Open Qualifier 3:

  • March 5-6
  • 5 Slots

EU Open Qualifier 4:

  • March 12-13
  • 4 Slots

Over in the Americas, NA and SA will both have 2 qualifiers each. These events will fill the 15 open slots in the RMR as Furia is the only team with an invited slot.

NA Open Qualifier 1:

  • February 26-27
  • 4 Slots

NA Open Qualifier 2:

  • March 5-6
  • 3 Slots

SA Open Qualifier 1:

  • February 26-27
  • 4 Slots

SA Open Qualifier 2:

  • March 5-6
  • 4 Slots

Finally, in Asia, the four RMR slots will be distributed equally among four regions: China, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Rest of Asia. Further details on these qualifiers will be released soon. The Major also requires all players to be fully vaccinated.

Clash of Dates

The dates for the PGL Major seem to be clashing with qualifiers for several other events. The American RMR event clashes with the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown that will take place April 20-24. While we do expect the tournament organizers to work out the scheduling, it is surprising that there seems to be no collaboration, especially for such big events.
