Three boosted shiny Pokémon feature in the Growing Up event in Pokémon GO.
The Growing Up event in Pokémon GO gives Trainers a boosted chance to catch three iconic shiny Pokémon. The event features boosted shiny odds not just in Eggs, but also from Wild Encounters. This means Trainers can get out and hunt as many of these specially featured Pokémon as possible.
Here is everything coming in the Growing Up event in Pokémon GO for you to get stuck into.
Pokémon GO Growing Up event
The Growing Up event in Pokémon GO runs from Friday, May 2, at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. This gives Trainers plenty of time to take advantage of the bonuses on offer:
Event Bonuses
The following bonuses will be active during the event:
- 2× XP for evolving Pokémon.
- 2× Candy from hatching Eggs.
- Increased chance to hatch Shiny Wimpod.
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Magikarp, Shiny Swablu, and Shiny Wimpod.
- Increased chance to encounter XXS and XXL Pokémon in the wild.
Take advantage of boosted shiny odds and increased XXL Pokémon
These are some of the strongest event bonuses we have seen for a while in Pokémon GO. Double XP for evolving Pokémon is a great way for Trainers to level up. We usually only get this as a Spotlight Hour bonus, so you can really rack XP up during this event.
In addition, we always love boosted shiny odds. Magikarp, Swablu and Wimpod all have some of the nicest shiny forms in the game. You simply cannot beat the iconic Red Gyarados, especially when that Pokémon has a Mega Evolution too.

Finally, the increased XXL chances during the Growing Up event in Pokémon GO is excellent for winning PokéStop Showcases. These can give you some excellent (and underrated) rewards that can save you some serious coins in game. For instance, you could get a Glacial Lure Module which you need for evolving Eevee into Glaceon.

Growing Up event Pokémon GO Wild Spawns
During the event, the following Pokémon will appear in the wild:
- Magikarp
- Wailmer
- Swablu
- Foongus
- Dedenne
- Cutiefly
- Wimpod
- Rookidee
- Nymble
Rookidee is really important for PvP when evolved into Corviknight, and Foongus is a Stardust boosted Pokémon. Focus on these as well as the three shiny boosted Pokémon.

Egg rotations getting updated with the Growing Up event
Additionally, we are getting some new Pokémon in the 2 km, 5 km and 10 km Egg pools when this event starts on May 2.
2 km Eggs:
- Happiny
- Riolu
- Wimpod

5 km Eggs:
- Mime Jr.
10 km Eggs:
- Toxel
This is the first time we have seen Toxel in the game since the GO Wild Event back in November 2024. A lot of Trainers still need this shiny, so this is an exciting addition. In addition to that, Riolu is always a welcome sight in Eggs. Mega Lucario is a very powerful Pokémon.
Special Growing Up bonuses for Pokémon GO players in Japan and Korea
The event also has special bonuses for Trainers based in Japan and Korea for the event. These run for a special two day period, on May 4 and May 5. The bonuses are:
- Timed Research awarding XP, Stardust, one Lucky Egg, and more!
- Complete Field Research tasks to earn Wimpod Candy and encounters with Tandemaus.
- Evolve Riolu to get a Lucario that knows the Fast Attack Force Palm.
- 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event period.
The 2x Stardust bonus is excellent. Focus on catching Foongus to really rack up XP, in addition, Force Palm is a very strong move so make sure to evolve Riolu!
