Overwatch 2 Invasion Story Mission ending foreshadows Genji and Zenyatta cinematic

At the end of the final Overwatch 2 Invasion Story Mission, a cinematic revealed more lore about Zenyatta and Ramattra. The Overwatch 2 Invasion cinematics also foreshadowed what could be next for Overwatch 2 PvE. Read on for details.

After completing the Gothenburg Story Mission and watching the cutscene involving Torbjorn, Reinhardt, Bastion, and Brigitte, another cinematic occurs. This one begins with Zenyatta in deep thought. He recalls his time with Mondatta and Ramattra at the Shambali Monastery.

Ramattra, now Null Sector's leader, left the Shambali Monastery. This location was once their home and once home to Aurora — the first sentient omnic. While Mondatta hoped for Ramattra to strive for harmony, the latter was doubtful about that in practice.

"I fear the humans are not interested in sharing their world and coexisting with omnics," Ramattra said. "We are a single-generation race... dying."

Mondatta reminded Ramattra that his human brothers and sisters may not look like him, but they're on the same journey because they're all one within the Iris.

Ramattra then asked if Zenyatta would like to reconsider joining him, but the latter declined.

"I had hoped we could continue our journey together," Ramattra said. "We will meet again, Zenyatta."

The cinematic then showed how Talon's Widowmaker later eliminated Mondatta. This assassination led to more human versus omnic violence around the world. Next, Sombra and Widowmaker appeared behind Zenyatta.

At the end of the Overwatch 2 Toronto Story Mission, Genji expressed his concerns about Zenyatta. This foreshadowed the above Zenyatta cinematic involving Mondatta, Ramattra, and Talon's Sombra and Widowmaker. Genji's worries also foreshadowed what could happen next in Overwatch 2 lore.

Back in 2021, BlizzConline revealed a cutscene that was in the works. This cutscene involved Genji protecting Zenyatta from Sombra and Widowmaker. The background of this cutscene and the current Zenyatta cinematic match up.

The BlizzConline event also showed the Overwatch 2 team working on the current Story Missions. The screenshots below feature the Zenyatta cutscene from 2021 and the current Zenyatta cutscene. Again, they match up.

Will the rest of the hints from 2021 show up in upcoming Overwatch 2 Story Missions? Only time will tell.
