Ramattra is the new Overwatch 2 hero!
The world-wide premiere of Ramattra happened smack in the middle of the Overwatch League Grand Finals 2022 just before the San Francisco Shock went up against Dallas Fuel for the championship crown. Here is everything we know about the upcoming hero so far.
Ramattra gameplay in Overwatch 2: Omnic and Nemesis forms
Ramattra is a new tank hero in Overwatch 2. According to Overwatch 2 Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson, Ramattra is unique because he has two forms: Omnic and Nemesis.
Ramattra’s Omnic form encompasses poke gameplay and includes a barrier to protect his team, Dawson added. When he transforms into his Nemesis form, he can become a big and dangerous target on the battlefield. In the Nemesis form, Ramattra can march towards his enemy’s backline with piercing punches.
Overwatch 2 new hero Ramattra lore
Players first saw Ramattra in a Havana Archives mission where he interacted with Doomfist, Overwatch 2 Art Director Dion Rogers revealed in the live arena.
“He’s the leader of the Null Sector,” Rogers explained. “He has a deep relationship with Zenyatta. They basically consider each other brothers.”
Rogers then added how fans need more Zenyatta lore and Ramattra is the team’s way of giving that out.
Ramattra’s relationships and why he fights
Ramattra was also a monk of Shambali like Zenyatta but had a difference in philosophies. Rogers noted how Omnics are finite, which means that they cannot make more of themselves. Whenever an Omnic dies, there’s no replacement.
That’s where Ramattra’s motives come in. The new Overwatch hero wants to create a better world for his people.
“He doesn’t want to see his people go. He wants to see a better life for them,” Rogers explained.
As for Ramattra’s relationship with other heroes, Rogers revealed that he knows characters from the Omnic Crisis such as Reinhardt and Torbjorn.
“He’s gonna have some issues in voice lines with these two, you know,” Rogers said. “But I really love what’s going on between him and Zenyatta because that just really shows what’s next for Overwatch.”
As the newest tank hero in Overwatch 2, Ramattra is available in Season 2 starting December 6th.
