New Overwatch 2 short story teases Anran as next hero: “You are formally invited to Watchpoint Gibraltar.”

Overwatch 2 just released a new short story, and it could be teasing Anran as the next playable hero. Is Anran Hero 46? Here's everything we know about this so far. We go over the new short story, an Anran hoodie, and some voice lines.

When we log in to Overwatch 2 and visit its recently-released story feature, we can see that one of the five placeholders is now filled with new content. It's a short video titled "Lore Drop: Invitation," and it features a voice over by Winston. He gives a recap of the game's story, which goes over the Omnic Crisis, the fall of Overwatch, heroes fighting against Null Sector, and how heroes, both old and new, are now uniting at Watchpoint Gibraltar. Winston then issues out a formal invite to the location.

What's interesting about Winston's invitation to Watchpoint Gibraltar is how the video pans to a close-up to Anran as he spoke. This new lore drop could be teasing Anran as the next hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster. In the lore, Anran is the fire-wielding older sister of Wuyang.

"We've reviewed every report, every act of bravery during the invasion, and you... you stood out not just for your skill, but for your courage," Winston said. "That's why you're receiving the message embedded within this token. You are formally invited to Watchpoint Gibraltar to stand with a new generation of heroes. The world won't save itself. Join us."

Additionally, based on upcoming Overwatch 2 merchandise involving Anran's voice actor, Fareeha Andersen, an Anran reveal may be happening soon. Below is what we see when we zoom in on the red hoodie.

"On Friday 16, we’re teaming up with Fareeha to unlock the final design together, live on her Twitch channel," the ARK/8 fashion company stated on its website.

As noted, Anran is Wuyang's older sister in Overwatch 2. She is also a top student at Wuxing University's Fire College. While Wuyang struggled to get into the Fire College and instead joined the Water College, Anran excelled in her studies and became a skilled fighter to continue the family tradition.

During Null Sector's attack on the school, Wuyang and Anran initially argued and went their separate ways. However, when Wuyang heard that his sister was in trouble, he used his water abilities to help her. Together, they fought their enemies and later reunited with their parents.

If Anran joins the roster, it would be fun to have another sibling duo in the game following Hanzo and Genji. Her interactions with Wuyang and the other heroes could be quite entertaining. At the moment, Wuyang has a couple of voice lines referring to Anran when he's interacting with the Shimada brothers.
