How to play Overwatch 2 on Steam

Overwatch 2 enters Steam on Aug. 10 alongside the launch of Overwatch 2: Invasion Story Missions. Here's everything to know about this arrival and how to play Overwatch 2 on Steam.

The Overwatch 2 page on Steam is now live, and interested players can wishlist the game ahead of the Aug. 10 release date. Currently, the Overwatch 2 Steam page features a trailer and some screenshots. Mike Ybarra, the president of Blizzard, stated that Overwatch 2 can run directly through Steam.

"We've heard from players that they like games on Steam and have asked us to do the same," Ybarra wrote on Twitter. "Players will always guide our way. We’re excited to be bringing Overwatch 2 to Steam."

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play game on Battle.net and Steam. However, the Overwatch 2: Invasion Story Missions are not free. According to Blizzard, interested players can purchase a bundle to access this content.

Blizzard added that the game is on Steam in addition to its current presence on Battle.net. Players who can already access the game through Battle.net can keep playing without any changes. Meanwhile, Steam users need to connect Overwatch 2 to a Battle.net account for cross-platform play and other features.

"Players using Steam will have access to features of the platform while playing Overwatch 2, such as Steam achievements, their Steam friends list, and the ability to invite them to play in-game," Blizzard stated.

Blizzard's debut on the Steam platform means the launch of Overwatch 2: Invasion there alongside the PvE Story Missions, a new PvP game mode, plus a new hero.

"Gamers and developers are both going to benefit from Overwatch 2 coming to Steam," Gabe Newell, the president of Valve, added in an announcement. "Gamers will have another platform where they can play a beloved game that utilizes the capabilities of Steam, and developers will benefit from the effects of having the talented team at Blizzard helping us evolve our supported features and functionality for Overwatch 2."

The announcement also stated that other games may potentially arrive on Steam when the time is right.
