LoL Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage: Day 1 schedule and format

The Swiss Stage Round 1 matches happened on Oct. 3. All of them werere under the Bo1 format, so the teams had no opportunity for recovery or comeback. At the same time, it’s only Day 1 of this tournament stage — no one wants to start their LoL Worlds 2024 Swiss run with a loss, but there will be enough matches after this round.

The best matches of LoL Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage Day 1

While watching so many matches may be somewhat tiresome and certainly time-demanding, you may decide to focus on a few most interesting ones. Here are our suggestions.

  • Top Esports vs T1

It’s always great to see T1 playing on the international scene. The team had a hard time qualifying for Worlds 2024, so everyone is interested in the current state of the legendary players. Top Esports surprised many viewers with their great play at the LoL Esports World Cup 2024, where they eliminated Gen.G and G2 Esports. Then, they lost to T1 in the EWC 2024 Grand Final.

  • Gen.G Esports vs Weibo Gaming

The second Korean team plays versus the second Chinese team. It’s a clash of the best LoL regions. Gen.G players won the Mid-Season Invitational 2024. Weibo Gaming took home the silver at the LoL Worlds 2023.

  • Team Liquid vs LNG Esports

After 100 Thieves were eliminated from the LoL Worlds 2024 event, the whole community of North American fans became interested in the real power of this region. Team Liquid will face one of the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) teams. LNG Esports achieved high results in the home splits, but they couldn’t beat the top regional teams. What Team Liquid will be able to show in this match?

  • G2 Esports vs paiN Gaming

The Brazilian team paiN Gaming is the first-ever organization from their region to qualify for the Swiss Stage of the World Championship. How far can the story of explosive emotions reach this time? G2 Esports is the best European team, but their international performance can be really shaky. How prepared are the players for this tournament and these opponents?

LoL Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage Day 1: Results of the best matches

In this section, you’ll find the details on our selection of matches: live scores, lists of picked and banned champions, and brief recaps.

Top Esports vs T1 — TES 1-0 T1. Top Esports won the match.

T1 got a super early First Blood and then started developing this advantage. They had around 2k more gold at minute 10. But when T1 went for kills, Top Esports managed to give a proper reply — a lot thanks to the power of Jhin in the hands of JackeyLove.

TES found good positioning around objectives: Dragons, Voidgrups, and Herald. Both teams had ups and downs in massive fights, and the match was just back and forth. The gold and kill difference was zero at minute 26. Then, the situation changed drastically.

Top Esports started Drake and after securing it, they eliminated all T1 players. With no opponents left to defend their base, TES simply destroyed the Nexus and won their match vs T1.

“When I came here, out of the airport… you know, the feeling is very familiar to me, in terms of the air and a lot of things here. It was just like I played here [and won the Worlds] in 2019. Now, I’m in a brand new team and with a brand new role. I could make it in 2019, and this time, it’s going to be the same script.”

Gen.G Esports vs Weibo Gaming — GEN 1-0 WBG. Gen.G won the match.

Gen.G made their powerful statement at the very beginning of this LoL Worlds 2024 Swiss stage match by securing all six Voidgrubs. It’s a great power to destroy turrets! And the general might of the Kalista and Renata Glasc link looked very promising for the Korean team.

WBG got Herald and the first turret. Then, Weibo secured a Dragon after the team fight and enjoyed 3k more gold on them. Could that give WBG the illusion of a close success?

After WBG secured another Dragon, Gen.G found a window to attack Baron. They destroyed a Mid tower and won an important team fight. Even when Weibo Gaming secured the next Baron, Gen.G managed to use this opportunity to get themselves Inferno Soul. After a while, they were with the Elder Dragon and all the opponents down. Gen.G defeated Weibo Gaming in their opening match.

“Because it’s the first day, we are unsure what strategy and what kind of characters the opponents are going to bring. We wanted to focus on picks that we think are really good.”

Team Liquid vs LNG Esports — TL 0-1 LNG. LNG Esports won the match.

The game was rather even till minute 15. Then Team Liquid overcommitted on the top lane: they lost a team fight and a Mid turret. It felt like the LNG seeded their advantage at that moment.

When Team Liquid started Baron, LNG decided not to interfere. But soon after that, the Chinese team won a fight, even with the opponents having the Baron buff. The following team fights were the same close and with relatively the same results. LNG Esports were better at them. After getting Baron, they started the siege and won this LoL World 2024 Swiss stage match against Team Liquid.

“I think [our current team] is quite similar to last year’s LNG, in terms of our playstyle.  It all depends on the early game. LPL always has good prospects coming to the World Championship.”

G2 Esports vs paiN Gaming — G2 vs PNG. G2 Esports won the match.

Everything was going G2’s way in this game. They were all over the map, while attacking PNG players and destroying their turrets. paiN Gaming got some good things into their account too: a couple of Dragons and some kills. But it still felt like G2 Esports were controlling the situation, inevitably snowballing the power of their LoL Champions. Yone of Caps was just deadly.

The advantage of G2 reached around 7k gold at minute 20. They started winning team fights pretty confidently. At some point, when most players were around Baron, Caps sneaked into PNG’s base and took down the Bot Inhibitor. paiN Gaming returned to save their structures, and G2 Esports got themselves the Baron buff.

G2 started their siege soon after that. And they successfully destroyed the Nexus. What a way to start the League of Legends Worlds 2024 for the best EU team!

“G2 of 2019… I wasn’t part of that story, and G2 of 2024 is the story I want to create when we win Worlds. It’s basically what I believe, what I want to make happen, and what everyone in the team is aligned on. This is our goal, and this is what we want to achieve.”
