After missing First Stand, T1 return under pressure in LCK 2026. The match against HLE was a crucial early test for Faker and the reigning champions.
T1 vs HLE at LCK 2026 was one of the first real tests for the reigning world champions as they look to recover from an early setback. Facing a strong Hanwha Life Esports squad, Faker and his team needed a convincing performance to regain momentum in the opening weeks and silence early doubts.
T1 already have one loss to their name. The 2025 LoL World Champions looked far from their usual level of themselves in the match against KT Rolster, especially in the first game.
While the competition continues, T1 will have opportunities to recover, especially against lower-tier teams. However, that’s not what fans really want. T1 supporters are eager to see Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok triumph over top opponents like Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports (HLE). That’s the level required to advance to the Mid-Season Invitational 2026 (MSI 2026) and win it.
An early recovery happened on April 4 as T1 faced HLE in the Week 1 matches.

T1 versus HLE in LCK 2026 Rounds 1–2, Week 1
Hanwha Life Esports players are just as eager to win this match as T1 are to get back on track. HLE also missed the First Stand despite being the reigning champions of the previous edition.
The opening match at LCK 2026 was successful for HLE since they destroyed BRION. Going 2-0 after the match against T1? That would give them a great boost of confidence.
T1 players absolutely need to recover. Gen.G, Dplus KIA, and other LoL powerhouses await them in the next weeks of LCK 2026 Rounds 1–2. Facing these challenges with a win over HLE would be a pleasant feeling of safety ahead of the MSI qualifiers.
The match has an additional interest since T1 face Gumayusi, their former bot-laner, and Zeus, their former top-laner.

Match recap
The recovery from T1 in this early stage of LCK 2026 Rounds 1–2 was decent and cheerful for the fans. There was no clumsiness in teamfights this time, and T1 players nicely capitalized on HLE’s mistakes.
With a 1:1 circuit score, T1 are still on the lower side of the Road to MSI qualification standings. The following matches should reveal the state of the LoL World Champions in tougher matchups.
The new roster of HLE crumbled in the LCK Cup 2026, and their loss to T1 continues this trend.

Game 1
T1 won game 1 thanks to their well-organized teamfights — or because of too risky aggression from HLE players. The early period was even, but then Kanavi, on his Pantheon, started rushing into fights and losing them. The hook from Delight’s Nautilus also looked out of place, not doing proper damage and not creating situations.
Faker reached the level of an unstoppable might, eliminating opponents easily. Even a mind-blowing Baron steal by Kanavi couldn’t prevent T1 from snowballing their advantage and destroying HLE’s Nexus.

Game 2
Hanwha Life Esports had a nice advantage at the start, and it looked like they could win this game. Some really good ganks happened for them, specifically on the bot lane.
Oner was passionately farming in that period, and when he was back for teamfights, T1 suddenly were stronger and more successful. They quickly snowballed to power and then brought the action to a logical end. Having one disastrous siege on the Baron buff did not stop T1 from winning over HLE at LCK 2026.

What happens with T1? Why did they lose to KT Rolster?
An opening loss is not what T1 fans were looking for, but in general, Faker and company delivered such shocking moves here and there in the regional competition.
Game 1 against KT Rolster was disastrous for T1. The opponents enjoyed an early advantage, and T1 kept losing crucial fights. They lost with no real hope.
Game 2 was so much different, as T1 seemingly woke up after losing in early combat. KT repeatedly ran into the individual skill of T1’s players, making it difficult for them to land the final blow. KT also picked Vayne for the top lane in that match, and it was a very unusual champion to see on the Korean stage. Despite T1’s best efforts, they still lost the 40-minute game.
The late activation of the competitive mood feels like the main issue for the T1 vs KT match. Rounds 1–2 matches continue for a pretty long time, nine weeks in total, but losing in the initial weeks is still pretty disturbing.
At the same time, we can’t underestimate the achievement of KT Rolster. After defeating T1, they won their match over Gen.G.
In Week 2, T1 will face the previously unstoppable champions of LCK, Gen.G Esports. This highly anticipated match will happen on April 8.
