Fortnite dominated the charts on PlayStation in 2023.
Fortnite had an exceptional year in 2023, especially regarding its success on PlayStation. According to an official blog post, the popular title was named the most popular PlayStation game in 16 countries. Additionally, Fortnite ranked second in four other countries, making it the top PS4 and PS5 game of 2023.
These numbers are impressive, considering Fortnite captured the same title in 2022. With a massive resurgence to close out 2023, Fortnite reclaimed its position.
Fortnite OG smashes records, translating to PlayStation success
Before November 2023, Fortnite was amid Chapter 4 Season 3, with players excited for the future. Once November arrived, so did Fortnite OG—perhaps the most anticipated season ever. The OG season represented a return to the game’s original map, loot, pool, and more. This launch proved to be the most successful in Fortnite’s storied history.
A record 100 million players enjoyed Fortnite OG in November, many of which came from PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Despite the abbreviated throwback season, Fortnite’s success continued into December with another historic event.

Following Fortnite OG, Epic Games started the Chapter 5 launch with “The Big Bang” event. Alongside Grammy Award-winning artist Eminem, Fortnite Chapter 5 released a new map, weapons, and more.
Beyond Battle Royale and Zero Build, Epic Games built anticipation for LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. After their respective launch in December, these three game modes would further solidify Fortnite’s standing as the most popular PlayStation game of 2023.
LEGO Fortnite, in particular, delivered on all expectations, pulling well over 1 million players during its first week. Overall, Epic Games once again proved Fortnite is a powerhouse in gaming, especially on home consoles.
