The annual Dota 2 short film contest is here. Creatives in the community can submit a Dota 2 short film before September 14 to get up to 25,000 USD in prize money. They'll have almost two months from now to wrap up production. The top entries will be showcased live at The International 2023 in Seattle, USA. More info below!
Short Film Contest details: Deadline and prize money
Dota 2 Short Film Contest is an exciting part of The International, where you can share your creativity with the community. You can flex your beautiful animations and cool Dota 2 storylines for a chance to not only win prize money but having your creation screened during The International.

When's the deadline?
You have to submit your creation before September 14, 15:00 PDT. Your submission must also be complete. This includes uploading the video and filling out submission dialogs. You must also follow the rules and guidelines (refer below) to have your creations considered.

What's the prize money distribution?
The top ten finalists will earn prize money with the first place grabbing a massive $25,000 USD. Here is the prize pool distribution for the Dota 2 Short Film Contest:

Rules and guidelines
If you want to take part in this Dota 2 Short Film contest, make sure to go through the guidelines. If you break any of these rules and guidelines, your submission might be rejected.
Dota 2 Short Film Contest rules and guidelines:
- 90 seconds or less.
- Must be at least 1080p.
- Entries must pertain to Dota 2
- Using Source Filmmaker is not a requirement. Participants may use any form or combination of animation or live-action technique in their creation.
- This short film must be a new creation for the Dota 2 Film Contest.
- You are free to use any Valve IP.
- If you use any non-Valve IP, you must be the copyright owner or have explicit permission from the owner. You will be required to warrant to Valve that you have all necessary rights and permissions in order for the entry to be considered. Any submissions found to be infringing non-Valve IP will be disqualified.
- You can submit more than one entry.
- No ads allowed.
- The deadline for submission will be Thursday September 14th 15:00:00 PDT. The submission process must be completed, including uploading the video and filling out submission dialogs, before the submission period ends.
- Submissions will be reviewed by the Steam community on the Steam Workshop. The top entries will be selected by Valve in its sole discretion to be featured in-game for a final vote by the community, and the winners will be announced at The International 2023.
- Submissions must be submitted to the Steam Workshop under the 'Dota 2 - Short Film 2023' game. DO NOT submit the videos under 'Dota 2'
How to vote
Valve will select the finalists but we also have the power to help them consider the best submissions! To vote for the short films, you need to go to the Workshop. You can also add comments and discuss with the community under each short film submission.
As for now, the short films aren't yet available. We will update this part of the article with more steps as soon as the short films are out!
