PGL has announced it will host the first-ever Counter-Strike 2 Major. The Major will take place in Copenhagen with the best players in the new game. PGL Copenhagen Major will take place from March 17-31, 2024.

Days after confirming the existence of Counter-Strike with three beautifully-crafted and very well-kept secretive videos, Valve announced the BLAST Paris Major will be the final CS:GO Major. In the same announcement, Valve also revealed there will be no more Majors in 2023, with the next Major taking place only in 2024.

Now PGL has unveiled they will host the first-ever Coutner-Strike 2 Major in Copenhagen next year.

One of the greatest games of all time is marching to another chapter, and we couldn't be happier to host probably the most important Major of the franchise in recent years. Denmark has a rich esports heritage, and we are excited to bring the world's best Counter-Strike teams to Copenhagen to compete for the game's most prestigious title. Our ambition for PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 is to break the game's all-time viewership records.

First Counter-Strike 2 Major: The PGL Copenhagen Major

The Major will take place at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. It will feature 24 teams competing for a massive prize pool. With $1,250,000 at stake and the opportunity to become the first-ever Counter-Strike 2 Major winners, the competition is bound to be fierce.

Of course, with the Major taking place in Denmark, one can expect a large turnout and intense hype for the games. Denmark has fielded some of the strongest CS:GO teams in recent years and has cultivated an enthusiastic fanbase for Valve’s FPS title.

With even politicians, local newspapers, and television channels featuring some of the Danish CS:GO players, one can expect a lot of excitement for the PGL Counter-Strike 2 Major in 2024.

A new game - An opportunity for a new legacy

Counter-Strike 2 runs on the Source 2 engine bringing with it massive improvements in graphics, the tick-rates (which no longer exist as a static number) as well as smoke grenades and cosmetic skins

The game is currently in beta with the developers closely monitoring any feedback. Meanwhile, a few maps have got upgrades while some others might remain largely similar to CS:GO. Valve has not  yet confirmed when Counter-Strike 2 will be released, but with no Counter-Strike 2 Major this year, Valve does have a lot of time to play with.
