Regular Warzone is currently unavailable, so when is it coming back?
Following the Season 2 Reloaded update this week, Call of Duty: Warzone received a major shakeup. At midnight ET on March 13, the entire Warzone menu got a fresh look, but players couldn’t select the modes they were used to. Instead, the only option currently available to play in Warzone is Black Ops Royale, the new Blackout experience that takes place on the Avalon map.
While this is great for players who enjoyed Blackout back in 2018 or wanted to try the mode, it’s not such a good change for regular Warzone fans wondering when they can play the normal modes again.
When can you play normal Warzone again in Season 2?
Fortunately, there’s an easy answer to this question. When you first load up Warzone after Black Ops Royale was released, you’ll see it’s the only playlist option available to you. Black Ops Royale also only has Quads available, as a Solos playlist isn’t currently in the mode.

To get the other standard Warzone playlists back, such as BR, Resurgence, Casuals, etc., all you have to do is play a single match of Black Ops Royale. After your first match, which can be as short as a few minutes if you load in, drop, die, and then return to the lobby, you’ll see some of the other playlists back in the Warzone menu.
However, the only playlists that are currently available following Black Ops Royale’s release are Resurgence and Resurgence Casual. Normal BR playlists are not playable at the time of writing, and it’s unclear exactly when they will be returning to Warzone.
Raven Software has stated that it eventually wants Avalon, the Black Ops Royale map, to be the full-time BR map, so we might not see regular BR playlists back until that happens. Or, we could see BR return within a few days or a week just to give players something extra to play while the developers get Avalon ready behind the scenes.
So, for the time being, you’re stuck with Black Ops Royale and Resurgence playlists. Hopefully, we hear an update about the regular Warzone BR playlists sooner rather than later. If we do, we’ll update this guide with the new details.
