Dive Trails work a little differently in Season 18. Here’s how how to equip a Dive Trail and an explanation of what’s changed.

What is a Dive Trail in Apex Legends?

An Apex Legends Dive Trail is a visual cosmetic which will add a particle effect around the player when skydiving onto the map at the beginning of the game, or when redeploying via an EVAC tower, beacons or a Valkyrie ultimate. Dive Trails were a reward for achieving a high rank in previous seasons.

Why are Dive Trails not a Ranked Reward in Season 18?

In a pre-Season 18 press conference that esports.gg attended, developers Respawn stated the decision to remove dive trails was because they found it resulted in "toxic behaviours". These toxic behaviours involved players deliberately following players with certain dive trails to ambush them on landing.

In the past an Apex Legends Dive Trail was a reward for achieving Diamond and above. From Season 18 onwards, this reward will be replaced by an Epic Banner Frame.

How to equip Dive Trails

To equip a Dive Trail you will need to do the following steps:

  1. Select the "Loadout" tab from the lobby screen
  2. Select "More" next to the Weapons tab
  3. Under Game Customization select "Dive Trails"
  4. Choose your Dive Trail

Only one Dive Trail currently in Apex Legends Season 18

At the launch of Season 18 there is only one Dive Trail outside of the default, and that's Valkyrie's Prestige Skin.

The Valkyrie Prestige Skin was a reward for collecting all 24 cosmetic skins during the Neon Network Collection Event which ran until the end of Season 17. If you have this Prestige Skin, you can apply that Dive Trail to any legend you wish via the menu above.

Outside of the Valkyrie Prestige Skin, there is currently no other Dive Trail. However, that is likely to change in the near future.
