Overwatch 2 Anubis
In Overwatch and Overwatch 2 lore, Anubis is a God program. After the fall of Omnica Corp, the company behind the creation of omnics, a lot of Omnica Corp's automated production lines were abandoned. This allowed Anubis to hijack these production lines, create warbots, and attack humans across the globe. This became the Omnic Crisis.
In response, teams around the world formed Overwatch to protect humanity. However, the omnics learned and adapted quickly. The turning point of the Omnic Crisis occurred when Aurora, the first sentient omnic, returned to her creator Dr. Mina Liao. This happened after Aurora's own journey that involved exploring the world.
Aurora and Liao entered a lab area before Aurora's faceplate was removed. This resulted in an explosive signal that reached every omnic in the world. Every omnics' lights changed from red to blue, signifying the Awakening event.
Overwatch then used the Awakening to quarantine Anubis in Cairo and win the battle.
