Hearthstone 22.2.1 patch brings early balance changes to Battlegrounds after the implementation of the new Buddy mechanic.

Balance changes coming to Hearthstone Battlegrounds with patch 22.2.1, days after the major Buddy update. The Hearthstone Battlegrounds team is balancing some minions in a hotfix that should be live this same Tuesday. With them, players are also getting a small Duels update, some Bug Fixes, and Game Improvements. Let’s go over the 22.2.1 Hearthstone patch notes.

Hearthstone Battlegrounds changes with patch 22.2.1

In a patch that is rolling out right now in form of a hotfix, Battlegrounds is getting some balance changes. These might most likely be some preliminary changes before a greater balancing when more data is available. Now with Hearthstone Buddies around, there is much more room for balancing the game. Moreover, the Armor handicap hasn't been restored yet, and that could also be a way of helping some weaker heroes.

As we mentioned, Hearthstone Patch 22.2.1 is a hotfix, meaning that players won’t need to download anything new from the client. However, devs mentioned that: "the changes will not show correctly while hovering over the minions in the shop, on the hero select screen, or when hovering over the Buddy Meter. This will be corrected in a future update."

Tarecgosa

  • Old: [Tavern Tier 3] → New: [Tavern Tier 4]

Tarecgosa

The change to this dragon was something expected by many players. In the previous metagames, getting an early Tarecgosa made a huge impact since it was a minion that could easily scale and gave players a composition direction in Tavern Tier 3. However, what made Tarecgosa steamroll lobbies was the combination with Tavish’s Buddy, Crabby. The new Hero combined perfectly with the ability to keep enchantments Tarecgosa has. The Hearthstone patch 22.2.1 aims to tone down a bit this combo which boosted Tavish’s performance.

Millificent Manastorm’s Buddy, the Squirrel was also overperforming in the current metagame. Hearthstone patch 22.2.1 is taking the Buddy to Tier 4. This way, the powerful effect that the Elementium Squirrel Bomb has is more in line with the moment it is available to players. The Squirrel’s tempo boost, combined with the already powerful Mech comp, made Millificent skyrocket in winrate all the way to the top of the Hearthstone Battlegrounds Tier list before the 22.2.1 patch.

Drakonid Enforcer

  • Old: [Tavern Tier 4] 3 Attack, 6 Health → New: [Tavern Tier 3] 2 Attack, 4 Health

The change to Drakonid Enforcer does not answer a current problem in the metagame. The reason for this change in the 22.2.1 Hearthstone Patch is to keep balanced the number of dragons in each Tavern Tier. With Tarecgosa going to Tier 4, Drakonid Enforcer goes down to Tavern Tier 3. Now it could be a viable tempo option combined with Bronze Warden, both now on Tavern Tier 3.

Other Hearthstone updates with patch 22.2.1

Hearthstone Duels is getting some minor balance changes with the 22.2.1 patch. Answering some unbalances in the force, the Duels team decided to move some powerful treasures to the next pool of treasures.

  • All Together Now was moved from Treasure Pool 1 to Treasure Pool 2.
  • Battle Totem, Disks of Legend, and Totem of the Dead were are all moved from Treasure Pool 2 to Treasure Pool 2 Ultra Rare.

Moreover, with the 22.2.1 patch, Hearthstone players should have a better game experience since some bugs were fixed along the way. If you want to know the full list of 22.2 Bugs and issues, you can check the official forum post. Hearthstone made the following improvements with the 22.2.1 patch:

  • Fixed a bug where your opponent playing a Choose One card while holding a Pathmaker would cause a floating card to remain on your screen.
  • Corrected a problem where Arfus would sometimes summon Reborn minions, instead of the properly resurrected 1 Health minions, when combined with Khadgar.
  • Fixed a bug where certain Buddies’ on-play voicelines would not play in certain circumstances.
  • Made progress on a bug where the client locked out players from Mercenaries Training Grounds. While a permanent solution is planned for Patch 22.4, restarting Hearthstone should now allow you to access the Training Grounds again if you were locked out.
  • Fixed a bug where Duels achievements were not properly tracking runs.
  • Fixed a bug where Duels Health totals did not match the Health totals intended for run progress.
