Game and Glory: ESL and BBC Studios release CS:GO Rio Major documentary

The Game and Glory documentary captures the essence of the Brazilian crowd, focusing on player and crowd storylines at Rio de Janeiro.

ESL and BBC Studio announced have teamed up to release Game and Glory, a documentary that brings behind-the-camera details of IEM Rio Major 2022. The documentary features CS:GO superstars Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato, and Casper "cadiaN" Møller.

Game and Glory was produced so the audience could discover the personal side of the players. With a multitude of interviews, viewers will get the chance to know a little bit about what went through their heads while they were competing at the Major in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The documentary is led by CS:GO caster Alex "MACHINE" Richardson.

"The Rio major was special for many different reasons for many different people. Two years in the making. A crowd like no other. A first tour to remember. On a crucial continent of the counter-strike landscape. A special first time for us all, but certainly not the last!"

The IEM Rio Major had a peak viewership of 1,428,993 with nearly 127 hours of airtime. The event encapsulated the energy of Brazilian fans with thousands of viewers chanting for their favorite teams.

The Brazilian energy

“Participating in the documentary was really cool to show a little bit of my family, where I come from, what I did as a kid, what the atmosphere is like in my family when I'm competing, and how things are in general."

One of the things that robbed the spotlight during IEM Rio Major was the Brazilian crowd. With the presence of musical instruments, the noise levels peaks, and the sheer enthusiasm surprised everyone watching from home. FURIA's KSCERATO was more than happy to participate in the documentary, to show his family and his story in Brazilian lands.

“Participating in the documentary was really cool to show a little bit of my family, where I come from, what I did as a kid, what the atmosphere is like in my family when I'm competing, and how things are in general. It was rewarding to have my family in a documentary that will surely be eternalized. I felt accomplished and, certainly, they did too because after playing for 13 years we didn't imagine we would reach this point." KSCERATO commented.

But it wasn't only the Brazilian player that had stories to tell about the tournament. In different situations, s1mple and cadiaN had the opportunity to face FURIA and in turn the crowd. The crowd obviously gave their full support to the local FURIA players. While the Ukrainian chose to take it on as a challenge, cadiaN declared his love for Brazil all the time. Game and Glory captures these special moments and different approaches in the 47-minute documentary.

IEM Rio Major: An event like no other

For the documentary “Game and Glory,” BBC Studios captured the spectacular atmosphere of the IEM Rio Major as well as the tremendous support and passion of the on-site fans. From Oct. 31, 2022, until Nov. 13, 2022, EFG hosted its largest CS:GO Major ever with a total prize pool of $1,250,000.

It became the most-watched ESL competition and the third most-watched CS:GO competition of all time. During the first two phases of the tournament, 3,500 fans per day came to watch the tournament on-site and during the final four days, 14,000 fans experienced a live atmosphere like no other.

Even if you know the eventual winner, this documentary is a work of art and you will thoroughly enjoy it.
