The final event of the season
The Shanghai Major is the first Counter-Strike Major in Asia and the final one of 2024. The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 will be the final event of the year. In many ways, the Major being the final event before the end of the season makes for a perfect ending to the season. Here’s all you need to know about the Shanghai Major including format, teams, and more.
The Shanghai Major Format
The Shanghai Major has three stages to the tournament. It all starts on November 30 with the Opening Stage Swiss format. The opening stage has sixteen teams in participation.
All the elimination and advancement matches are best of three series. All other matches are best of one. The top eight teams from the opening stage will go forth to the elimination stage. For the bottom eight teams, unfortunately, this signals the end of their Shanghai Major adventure.
The elimination stage follows a similar format, where the top eight teams will go forth to the playoffs. The Playoffs are a single-elimination format and the winner will be crowned as the best team in the world.

Where can I watch the Broadcast?
The Shanghai Major will be broadcast on Twitch for the English-speaking audience. The event will also have regional language streams. At the time of writing, there is not much information about the Shanghai Major broadcast channels. We will update this chat with more information when it becomes available.
Which teams will attend the Major?
The Major will have twenty-four teams in participation. The teams will have to battle it out in the Regional Major Ranking events before they can earn their spot in the Shanghai Major. This includes eight teams in the Elimination stage and sixteen teams in the opening stage of the tournament.
The eight teams in the elimination stage will all come from the European RMR event. The sixteen teams in the opening stage of the tournament will come from various regions and the distribution is as follows:
- Seven from Americas RMR
- Six from European RMR
- Three from Asia Pacific RMR
The Shanghai Major is the final Major of the year and will be the last tournament of the year. While traditionally, it has always been the BLAST World Final, this year, the Shanghai Major will be the final event before the holidays.
