FaZe did not lose a single Search and Destroy map the entire weekend.

Four intense days of competition unfolded this past weekend at CDL Boston Major 2. Twelve teams entered the MGM Musical Hall at Fenway on Thursday, and the Atlanta FaZe knocked down every challenger they encountered. FaZe journeyed through the winner’s bracket, and, with the help of new addition Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat, the former World Champions looked like the Atlanta FaZe of old at Boston Major 2.

The Atlanta FaZe takes care of business in the Winner’s Bracket

The Atlanta FaZe looked in control throughout the competition. Their bracket began with a close 3-2 series win over the hometown Boston Breach. Then, Cellium and company shut out a rising Toronto Ultra squad, firmly placing them into the winner’s finals.

Two more matches stood between the Atlanta FaZe and the Boston Major 2 Championship. The team started Championship Sunday with another close 3-2 win over a surprisingly formidable Minnesota ROKKR squad. FaZe then awaited the surging LA Thieves, who fell to the Elimination Bracket on day one and proceeded to 3-0 victories over three of their next four opponents, including Major 1 Champs, the New York Subliners.

The “second-place curse” is broken, Atlanta FaZe wins Boston Major 2

Championship Sunday came down to a rematch of the CDL Championship 2022 — the Atlanta FaZe vs. LA Thieves. The history between these two squads is well-documented, and viewers were in for a treat.

The series kicked off with a miraculous comeback by the Thieves on Mercado Hardpoint. In game two, the FaZe showcased their incredible Search and Destroy gameplay, which was on display all weekend. The two teams continued trading wins, but the game five El Asilo Search and Destroy derailed the LA Thieves.

With the Thieves up 5-4 in the game, Tyler "ABeZy" Pharris achieved an incredible two-piece, opening the door for FaZe. FaZe won the SnD, and the Thieves looked lifeless in the final match. After a hard-fought series, the Atlanta FaZe defeated the LA Thieves 4-2, broke their supposed “second-place curse,” and hoisted the trophy.

Final Map Scores

  • Hardpoint on Mercado Las Almas: 250-248 LA Thieves
  • Search and Destroy on Breenbergh Hotel: 6-3 Atlanta FaZe
  • Control on Breenbergh Hotel: 3-2 Atlanta FaZe
  • Hardpoint on Breenbergh Hotel: 250-180 LA Thieves
  • Search and Destroy on El Asilo: 6-5 Atlanta FaZe
  • Control on El Asilo: 3-0 Atlanta FaZe

All four Atlanta FaZe players performed exceptionally throughout the weekend. However, Chris “Simp” Lehr received the MVP award for CDL Boston Major 2. The two-time World Champion delivered multiple double-digit kill performances in Search and Destroy maps, which undoubtedly contributed to the squad’s perfect SnD record at the event.

The Atlanta FaZe team looked on point at the event, but Simp’s 1.08 K/D and overall presence in the tournament earned him the prestigious MVP award. FaZe now turns to the Major 3 Qualifiers, which kicks off February 17.
