Atlanta FaZe were crowned CDL 2021 Champions after they defeated Toronto Ultra in an epic Grand Finals matchup. Here is a quick recap of what took place on Championship Sunday.

The Grand Final Match As It Happened

Coming into this tournament FaZe had the eyes of the world on them after holding the number 1 seed all season-long. Despite a brief setback in the Stage 5 Major, which saw them get knocked out early by Minnesota Rokkr and Seattle Surge, FaZe were still ultimately the favourites to take the crown. However they were up against Toronto Ultra, the only team to have beaten them in a Major final all season. Despite getting to Championship Sunday with minimal fuss, they knew this match would not be an easy one.

Though Toronto managed to take the first map in the Best-of-9 series, FaZe quickly sprung to life as they managed to take three maps in a row. As predicted, Toronto did not make this match easy for them as they responded with an emphatic victory in the map 5 Search and Destroy to close the lead to 3 - 2. FaZe, however, responded in kind by winning the proceeding Control. Though Ultra attempted to stage a late comeback, thanks to some heroics from Bance and Cammy, it ultimately proved to be too much of a challenge for them as Atlanta FaZe managed to wrap things up in the map 7 Hardpoint.

The Legacy of the Tiny Terrors Officially Cemented

It was a match that certainly lived up to its billing. So to were the victorious FaZe squad. This win is important not just because it is FaZe Clan's first-ever Cod Champs victory, but because it marks the completion of a redemption story that began this time last year when FaZe was defeated in the 2020 final by the now-former champions Dallas Empire.

More importantly, this win has further cemented this Atlanta FaZe squad as one of the greatest rosters in Call of Duty history. And given the tenacity of this remarkably talented group of players, we can only wonder what else they have got in store for us in the not-so-distant future.

Abezy Named CDL Championships 2021 MVP

to cap off a day of celebrations, the CDL also awarded star-man Abezy with the CDL Championship MVP Award. And he more than earned this accolade after the incredible season he has had.

Dubbed by many in the CDL as the "First-Blood King," Abezy's hyper-aggressive slaying capabilities proved to be a decisive factor in many of FaZe's matches throughout the weekend. Another accolade for the young man's collection of accomplishments this season, which also included a regular-season MVP nomination as well as a spot in the CDL 2021 Team of The Year.
