Hearthstone Battlegrounds Tier list
HSReplay.net released the data on the early stages of the 22.2 Hearthstone Battlegrounds patch and the current Hero Tier list.
With over 130,000 games from the top 20% of players, the popular Hearthstone stats site ranked the 75 Battlegrounds Heroes in a Tier list. This information is likely to change due to meta stabilization and possible balance adjustment. However, it’s worth going over the best performers.
Millificient Manastorm
- Hero Power: (Passive) Mechs in Bob’s Tavern have +1/+1
- Buddy: Elementium Squirrel Bomb Deathrattle (Tavern 3): Deal 4 damage to an enemy minion. Repeat for each of your Mechs that died in this combat.
- Best comp: Mechs
The Mech-based Battlegrounds Hero is at the top of Hearthstone’s auto battler tier list due to its incredible power Buddy. Elementium Squirrel Bomb give players amazing sustainability in the mid-game, allowing them to roll for triples and leveling while winning fights. To no one’s surprise, the Millificient’s best compositions are Mechs. Squirrel Bomb can be combined with Baron Rivendare for max effect, upgrading the already powerful Mech comp from the previous patch.
- What to look for: Baron Rivendares (Tavern 5), Omega Buster (Tavern 6), Kangor’s Apprentice (Tavern 5), Deflect-o-Bot (Tavern 3).
- Plus: Can work with Macaw for activating Deathrattles and with Avenge comps in mid-game.
Tavish Stormpike
- Hero Power: Take aim! Start of Combat: Deal 1 damage to your target (Upgrades each turn!)
- Buddy: Crabby (Tavern 3): After your Hero Power fires, give adjacent minions stats equal to the damage dealt.
- Best comp: Dragons
The brand new Hero entered Hearthstone Battlegrounds at the top of the Tier list. The flexible and scaling effect of its Hero Power allows Tavish to adapt to each opponent. Moreover, Crabby gives enormous amounts of tempo in the mid-game. You can combine it with Divine Shields or Cleave effects. However, where it shines is in combination with Tarecgosa, the dragon that keeps combat enchantments permanently. This allows massive scaling and direction towards a full dragon comp.
- What to look for: Tarecgosa (Tavern 3), Prized Promo-Drake (Tavern 4), Kalecgos (Tavern 6), Nadina the Red (Tavern 6)
- Plus: Can work with Divine Shields and Cleave effects
Illidan Stormrage
- Hero Power: Passive: Start of Combat: Your left and right-most minions gain +2 Attack and attack immediately.
- Buddy: Eclipsion Illidari (Tavern 2): 'Wingmen' also gives "Immune while Attacking" for one attack only.
Illidan is another of the winners of the 22.2 Hearthstone Patch, climbing to the top of Battlegrounds tier list on the back of its Buddy. When you can combine powerful attack buffs with immunity while attacking, you become just unstoppable.
The golden Buddy gives Immune for the next two attacks, so imagine combining that with a Poisonous minion or Cleave effect. As for comps, Eclipsion’s effect is so powerful that Murlocs, Elementals, Beasts, or Dragons are viable options, as long as you scale and have the right attackers on your wings.
- What to look for: Amalgadon (Tavern 6), SI: Sefin (Tavern 5), Maexxna (Tavern 6), Wildfire Elemental (Tavern 4)
- Plus: Gives flexibility when choosing a composition

George The Fallen
- Hero Power: Give a minion Divine Shield.
- Buddy: Karl the Lost (Tavern 3): After you use your Hero Power, give your Divine Shield minions +2 Attack.
- Best Comp: Quilboar and Menagerie
George is ramping in the current Hearthstone Battleground meta, sitting at the top of the tier list. Carried by its Hero Power that generates a snowball effect when combined with Gemsplitter, George is stomping. Moreover, Karl brings more consistency to George’s game plan since you can boost your attacker’s turn after turn. Besides Quilboards, George can now buff Cave Hydras to the infinity with its Buddy effect to have an alternative plan.
- What to look for Gemsplitter (Tavern 3), Groundshaker (Tavern 4), Bonker (Tavern 4), Dynamic Duo (Tavern 4), Aggem Thorncurse (Tavern 5), Cave Hydra (Tavern 5)
- Plus: If you have a full Divine Shielded comp, you can still Hero Power something from Bob’s tavern to activate Karl’s effect.
Xyrella
- Hero Power: Choose a minion in Bob's Tavern to add to your hand. Set its stats to 2.
- Buddy: Baby Elekk (Tavern 2): After you play a minion with Attack equal to its Health, gain +2/+2.
Despite having a deceptively weak Buddy, Xyrella is top 5 in the Hearthstone Battlegrounds Tier list for now. What’s powerful about Xyrella is the combination of a good economy Hero Power and excellent early tempo with its Buddy.
Low Tavern minions usually have equal Attack and Health values you can take advantage of. Furthermore, if you find tokens in the early game you can adapt your curve to stay on Tavern 1 until you are strong enough to level three turns in a row to Tavern 4.
Hearthstone Battlegrounds Tier List: Tier 2 Heroes
We are not going to go full detail into the second section of this Hearthstone Battlegrounds Tier list since things are still changing every day. However, here you have the list of the Heroes that are still performing well and their average placement, without being as OP as the ones above.

Early conclusions of this Hearthstone Battlegrounds Tier List
According to this data, tempo and stats are still kings. They are key to giving you time to assemble your ideal compositions and synergies. The economy is still playing a major role in the game, so if you can set up an Avenge engine that provides you, free minions, you are probably going to get at least Top 4.
Balance your greed for the economy and the stats you put on board, if aren’t able to catch up after the Damage Cap is over, you might be sent out in one single blow.
