Aim is everything in FPS games like VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2 and Marvel Rivals. That means every player of any of those games can benefit from doing things that help improve your aim in FPS games. Even better is that this is a transferrable skill.

That means that as games come and go, the better your aim is the better you will do in any FPS game. Sure, each game has different mechanics to learn and master, but developing fantastic aim will set you in good stead no matter what game you are playing.

Just like other skills, like hitting a golf shot, landing a tennis serve or running a race, practice makes perfect. Now, that could be sinking hours and hours into your favourite FPS game, like VALORANT. However, that is not the most targeted way to improve your aim.

That is why a lot of top fps pros use aim training to improve their aim in whatever games they are playing. There are some game specific aim trainers avaliable. But, most players use either Aimlabs or Kovaaks to work on their aim.

These are the two main aim trainers avaliable right now. Fundamentally they are the same thing but they have a lot of differences. A big difference is that Aimlabs is free, while Kovaaks costs about $7.99. Aimlabs does have a paid membership to unlock a suite of additional features.

What exercises should I use to improve my aim in FPS games?

Just like in the gym, there are different exercises you can do each focusing on different skills. Which ones are most important to you will depend on what games you are playing. Both aim trainers have game specific playlists and exercises. For instance, flicking is more important in VALORANT and CS2, with tracking more important in games like Apex Legends and Fortnite.

For Kovaaks, there is a training plan you can follow if you want to improve your aim in FPS games. It's called Voltaic, and they publish a daily improvement plan. For Apex Legends, you might look to Imperial Hal's settings. In CS2, standouts include donk and m0NESY. Then in VALORANT check out BenjyFishy, S0m or Zellsis. Playing Fortnite? Take a look at Peterbot's settings.

Practicing in game

Another important thing you need to do to improve your aim in FPS games is to actually play the game that you are currently focused on. There are some key mechanics you will need to work on as well as just your raw aiming. That is things like learning to control weapon recoil in game, which is a super key mechanic.

However, in a standard game of VALORANT, Fortnite, Apex Legends or CS2 you won't actually spend a lot of the game shooting your gun. This makes it less than ideal for targeted practice.

That is why most games have a way to practice built in. Apex Legends has the firing range and the mixtape playlist. VALORANT and CS2 have TDM matches and workshop maps, and Fortnite has Creative Map codes that give you great places to improve. Combine these with aim training for the best results!

Other tips to improve your aim in FPS games

While those are the key things you need to do, there are some other things that can help you improve your aim in FPS games.

  • Optimise your video settings. Experiencing FPS drops and lag spikes will interrupt your gameplay and can force you to miss shots.
  • Use a wireless mouse. You'll be surprised at how much smoother your mouse control can be without a wire dragging on the desk.
