PGL CS:GO MAJOR ANTWERP 2022 will take place between May 9-22. The Antwerps Sportpaleis will be the venue for the Playoffs.
After the massive success of PGL Stockholm 2021, the Romanian organizer has been selected as the host for the first 2022 CS:GO Major. PGL Antwerp will run from May 9 to 22 and will feature a $1 Million, prize pool.
The event's 2-week long event will conclude with playoffs inside the Antwerp Sportspaleis Arena. The Arena is most famous for hosting numerous musical concerts but was also the host of FIBA's Basketball Champions League Final Four in 2019. The 18,000 seater venue will be filled with spectators to bring back the energy-filled atmosphere of LANs.
We are very excited to see this top-tier esports championship happening in Antwerp. The CS:GO Majors have millions of viewers, and tens of thousands of fans will visit our city to attend the matches. It is also the first time this tournament will take place in Belgium or the Netherlands. It puts Antwerp on the map internationally as a hot spot for esports, an immensely interesting and fast-developing sector.
It will be the fifth consecutive European Major after FACEIT London, IEM Katowice, Starladder Berlin, and PGL Stockholm. It will mark the first time Belgium will play host to a Major with the most notable tournament to take place in the Benelux country so far being Charleroi Esports in 2019.
We are glad to have the opportunity to bring back the fans and players together for another CS:GO Major. Belgium has an impressive Counter-Strike fanbase, and many legendary players were born in this country. We are ready to offer an incredible experience for the fans inside the arena and the passionate viewers at home.
PGL will also be conducting the 3 RMR LAN events for qualification to the Major to ensure that the best teams of each region make it to the LAN. After the format and technical issues at 2021's various RMR events, the return to LAN RMRs should ensure parity between regions and should minimize technical issues.
This will be PGL's third CS: GO Major after PGL Krakow and PGL Stockholm. Stockholm was CS:GO's biggest Major ever, bringing in a peak of 2.7 Million Viewers and with a prize pool of $2 Million. NaVi's triumph at the event set Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev as the undisputed GOAT of the game.
