Will you get the new character, Astra Yao, or opt for Ellen’s rerun?
The Zenless Zone Zero version 1.5 update is here! The first half of the update will feature ZZZ's first-ever rerun banner while introducing the new character, Astra Yao. Check out the details of Ellen's and Astra Yao's banners here.
ZZZ 1.5 first half banners
The banners will share pity count, similar to how Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact handles concurrent banners. The Signature W-Engines of the characters featured in the banners, including the A-Ranks, will receive a boosted rate on the W-Engine Channel.
Both the Astra Yao banner and the Ellen Joe rerun banner will last from the beginning of ZZZ 1.5 until Feb. 2, 2025 11:59 server time.
Each banner will also be accompanied with their respective trial stages. Details of the ZZZ 1.5 first half banners are below.
Astra Yao banner - "Thousand Melodies"
Thousand Melodies is Astra Yao's Exclusive Channel (banner). The pull rates for the following characters are boosted:
- Astra Yao (S-Rank Support Ether)
- Anby (A-Rank Stun Electric)
- Corin (A-Rank Attack Physical)

Ellen Joe rerun banner - "Mellow Waveride"
Ellen Joe is getting a rerun as her banner, "Mellow Waveride," makes a return this patch. The following characters are boosted for her Exclusive Channel:
- Ellen (S-Rank Attack Ice)
- Anby (A-Rank Stun Electric)
- Corin (A-Rank Attack Physical)
Should you roll for Astra Yao or Ellen?
Ellen is ZZZ's first limited character, and while she may have been useful in the early days of the game, she has already been overshadowed by other units, especially Hoshimi Miyabi.
Meanwhile, Astra Yao is new and may improve your game experience as she is more relevant in the ongoing story. She also has a unique aspect on her kit that allows her to stay on-field and boost the party even if you switch off of her. Generally, support units take more time to get outshined by other units.
My general advice for you would be to go for Astra instead of Ellen. Of course, if you enjoy Ellen for her character and out-of-gameplay aspects, then you should roll for her instead. She is also getting a skin - if you want to give her new look a try then she might be the choice for you, too.
If neither of these characters appeal to you, then maybe save up for upcoming characters like Evelyn Chevalier, who arrives in the latter half of this update.
