VALORANT has a huge fan following and playerbase in China, and the previous Masters event held in Shanghai was hugely successful. The success of that event has directly influenced their decision to return, according to the announcement posted today.
"After the unforgettable energy of Masters Shanghai 2024, with a packed Mercedes-Benz Arena, record-setting viewership, and a full city takeover, we knew we had to come back. That event proved what we believed: Shanghai wasn’t just ready to show up, it was ready to host the biggest event on the VCT calendar."
The event wasn't just a success in person either. The event posted almost 25 million hours watched, peaking at over 900,000 viewers during the final match between Gen.G and Team Heretics.
Riot are working hard to grow their presence in China. The League of Legends World Championship will also be held in the region, taking place in Shanghai, as well as Beijing and Chengdu.
Fans will have high expectations for the event, with Riot promising that the VALORANT Champions 2026 event will "be more than just the final stop on a global tour." They claim that the event "will deliver the highest level of VALORANT competition while once again spotlighting the passion of VCT CN’s home crowd."
