SteamOS is now available on the Lenovo Legion Go S that releases in May this year.
Valve’s SteamOS is the most popular OS when it comes to handheld gaming devices. Soon, Valve is starting to license the OS to third-party manufacturers to use on their devices. It all starts off with Lenovo’s Legion Go S. Lenovo’s handheld gaming device will also be priced competitively compared to Steam Deck at $499. Here’s all you need to know about Lenovo entering the handheld gaming market powered by SteamOS.
Lenovo Legion Go S to feature SteamOS
The Legion Go S releases in four different versions, each one with a different APU. The different Go S’s vary in specifications, with one of them being the SteamOS version. Lenovo announced it will release a Legion Go S featuring SteamOS with Valve’s approval. While this is not likely the only handheld device to feature SteamOS, it is the first outside of Valve itself.
We're excited to share that SteamOS is expanding beyond Steam Deck, with the newly announced Lenovo Legion Go S - Powered by SteamOS. This is the first officially licensed device to ship with our operating system, and we're continuing to add compatibility for more devices.
Valve is working hard on ensuring SteamOS is compatible with Lenovo Legion Go S, a move that they say will also help other manufacturers to integrate the OS.
In addition, the same work that we are doing to support the Lenovo Legion Go S will improve compatibility with other handhelds. Ahead of Legion Go S shipping, we will be shipping a beta of SteamOS which should improve the experience on other handhelds, and users can download and test this themselves.
