Here's a closer look at the brand-new TFT Set 17 trailer. TFT's Space Gods set features Soraka as the God of the Stars, Yasuo as the God of the Abyss, and Aurelion Sol as the God of Wonders!

Riot Games has revealed the trailer for the next Teamfight Tactics (TFT) set. Introducing Space Gods! The TFT Set 17 trailer arrived on March 27 during Day 1 of the Lore & Legends Tactician’s Crown tournament. Shortly after Nekkra, Meeix, and Clement analyzed Deisik’s Game 2 victory, Nekkra introduced fans to the sneak peek.

TFT’s Space Gods trailer features a version of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 anthem. “GODS” ft. NewJeans plays in the background as a giant Yasuo, Soraka, and Aurelion Sol appear in multiple scenes. The lyrics imply that they’re gods. Near the start of the trailer, Nami, Bard, and Twisted Fate go up to a god’s statue with their Little Legends as well. Then, upon touching a statue, they enter a space realm.

TFT enters its Space Gods era

TFT Set 17 game designer Matt Dunn shared more details about Space Gods as well. He went into the inspiration behind the set, revealing that TFT previously explored space in Set 3 and Set 3.5 with a traditional sci-fi theme. However, the Space Gods will be a different take on space.

“This time around, we wanted to see if we could do a slightly different spin on a space theme,” Dunn said. “One that was a little more fantasy, a little more mystical, a little more divine.”

Dunn also explained that while the trailer seemed to show six champions, there were actually only three of them in it.

“Those three champions you saw — Bard, Twisted Fate, and Nami — all are champions you’ll run into in Space Gods and have a chance to play,” he said. “But the other three characters you may have seen there — that was Soraka, the God of the Stars, Yasuo, the God of the Abyss, and Aurelion Sol, the God of Wonders.”

Prior to this reveal, the TFT team posted a video on March 26, indicating that Space Gods will not have a carousel. Dunn spoke about this as well, revealing that the carousel feature will take a temporary break in TFT Set 17. However, it will return in the future.

“Carousel is going on a little break for Set 17 Space Gods,” he said. “In its place — it opens up — it gives us some space to explore something a little new, a little different. What that is, exactly? You’ll have to tune in tomorrow to find out. But I want to be clear — this is a break. It is not going away forever. We have no plans to limit it. You will see it return.”
