Filian will once again reprise the role of host.

The Vtuber Awards are returning for 2024. The annual awards show celebrating the best of the Vtuber space garnered popularity with its first iteration in 2023, with thousands of fans tuning in. With its second iteration, the event promises "a lot of surprises and even greater audience involvement."

Hosted by popular Vtuber Filian, the event aimed to put the spotlight on Vtubers. While VTubers had a dedicated Streamy Awards category and IronMouse won Content Creator of the Year at The Game Awards 2023, Filian felt that the field needed better representation.

"In every awards show, VTubers are often a footnote or sometimes treated as a unique, strange thing, and so the idea for these awards is like, 'Why not have a show for ourselves?'"

Similar to last year, the event will be produced by WePlay Studios. The company is best known for its Esports events but ventured into Vtubing for the Awards show last year. Alongside WePlay, Filian's Mythic Talent will also play a role in the production.

Recognising the individuality of Vtubers

One of the biggest factors behind the success of the Vtuber Awards was its categories. Unlike traditional Gaming/Streaming award shows, Vtuber Awards doesn't simply award one Vtuber. Instead, the event focuses on recognizing the individuality of various Vtubers. 2023's event featured categories for Music, Art, FPS, Minecraft, comedy, technology, and even chaos, among many others.

These categories ensure that various talents are recognized rather than being lumped together. This follows a trend of expansion similar to gaming and streaming itself. Initially, these categories, too, were clubbed with other award shows. But now Gaming, Esports, and Streaming all have award shows of their own.

Similarly, via the Vtuber awards, people like Vedal987, the AI chatbot Neuro-sama, won the Best Tech Vtuber, a field that would have simply been ignored in any other event. VShojo's Ironmouse took home three awards, while Nijisanji Vtubers also received various awards, including Selen Tatsuki's Best FPS Vtuber award.

Vtuber Awards 2024 - What's new?

For 2024, only a handful of details have been revealed so far. Much like 2023, the event will feature a large number of categories. And for 2024, the show promises greater audience involvement. How that will be achieved remains to be seen. Currently, the Award show's website is accepting submissions for the fans' favorite Vtuber clips for the year.

The clips will be used to nominate the Vtubers across various categories. Fans will then be able to vote for their favorites, deciding the winners. The winners will be announced during the Awards show on December 14, 2024. Last year's show was produced from the WePlay Arena in Los Angeles, costing nearly $100,000. A similar setup is likely to be used to allow Filian to host the event in 2024.

Further details, including the categories, event timings, and more will be revealed on the event's official X account. The event itself will be streamed live on Filian's Twitch account.
