At the beginning of the event, participants can choose between Ruby and Sapphire as their teams. People on Team Ruby will have a higher chance of finding Groudon raids and players who join Team Sapphire will be able to participate in Kyogre raids.

So who is Groudon and Kyogre?

The two legendary beasts are the makers of the Hoenn region. Groudon developed the land, mountains and more, whereas Kyogre filled the oceans. Players will also finally be able to encounter the Primal versions of these two legendary Pokémon.

The event will also include other exclusive Pokémon including the legendary Latias and Latios and more. The hunt for Hoenn's greatest in shiny form is on, as multiple fans are looking forward to an amazing weekend.

The event will also include new music from Junichi Masuda, the original composer of the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire soundtrack.

"I want people to hear those horns from Hoenn", said Humberto Kam, Niantic's Director of Global Live Events. "It was a great place to draw inspiration from, not only for the nostalgia but also to put a different spin on things."

This marks the third large-scale Pokémon GO tour, the other two taking place in Johto and Kanto.

"We did Kanto and Johto years prior, so this was next on the list but given that it's Hoenn, we knew we had to do it right."

With Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire being historical in the game's franchise, we can only expect the weekend to be just as legendary.
