With Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen now available for the Nintendo Switch, many are wondering how to get the Master Ball in the games.

The popular Gen 1 remakes have made their way to the Nintendo Switch, and with a whole new wave of players, many have been asking how to get the Master Ball in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Here is a guide.

Master Ball location in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen

To get the Master Ball in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, you first have to go through a challenge. First, head to Saffron City, which can only be done after completing the events revolving around Snorlax and the Poké Flute (and giving the guard something to drink).

Once in Saffron City, you will need to liberate the Silph Co. building from Team Rocket, as they have taken over. On the 11th floor, you will find Giovanni, Team Rocket’s leader. After defeating him (and trust me, it is not an easy battle), you will talk to the President of Silph Co., who will award you with the Master Ball for saving him.

Let it be noted, this is the only time you can get the Master Ball in FireRed & LeafGreen, so make sure to use it wisely.

The best Pokémon to use the Master Ball on

Many may be wondering just what Pokémon you should use the Master Ball on. Well, to be fair, you can use the legendary Poké Ball on any Pokémon. I mean, throw it at a level three Pidgey for all I care. However, the Master Ball has a 100% catch rate, meaning it will catch any and every Pokémon.

So, it’s best to be used on an incredibly rare Pokémon.

Yes, you can use the Master Ball on one of the legendary birds or even MewTwo. However, once you defeat the Elite 4, one of the historic legendary dogs will be roaming the map. Depending on who you chose at the beginning of the game as a starter, the dog legendary who poses as your starter’s weakness will be available to catch.

For example, if you chose Charmander as your starter, then you will be able to catch a Suicune later on.

These Pokémon are on the run, though, and can be found randomly when exploring the map post-game, and they can easily flee at the beginning of a battle. A Master Ball is quite effective when facing one of the legendary dog Pokémon. Personally, I am waiting to save mine for Raikou when I see him (Squirtle gang for life).
