During BlizzCon 2023, the Overwatch 2 team teased the arrival of these weapons. However, they were known as emerald weapons back then. The BlizzCon 2023 showcase also featured weapon previews for Reinhardt, Hanzo, Soldier: 76, and Zenyatta.

How to unlock jade weapons in Overwatch 2

Unlocking these weapons in Overwatch 2 requires collecting enough points in competitive mode. A jade weapon requires 3,000 Competitive Points. According to Blizzard, you must earn new Competitive Points starting in Season 9. This is because your current Competitive Points are going to be turned into a legacy currency.

The game's competitive mode is getting a rework in Season 9, too. The rework involves a rank reset, increased transparency and accuracy, and even a brand-new rank for the best players — Champion! This rank is joining the likes of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, and Top 500.

"As part of this redistribution, we're also adding a new rank above Grandmaster called Ultimate," Overwatch 2 senior systems designer Gavin Winter said back in 2023. "We wanna give out competitive rewards every year, too." He then teased the arrival of jade weapons — known as emerald weapons at the time.
