Players have one chance in 2024 to run their placement matches.
Overwatch 2 has updated its competitive system! The new system is now more accurate as of Season 9. Here's everything to know about the new Overwatch 2 competitive system and placement matches.
Overwatch 2 competitive system explained
You can now see your updated rank after every match in competitive Overwatch 2. The progress bar shows how much you've gained or lost between each skill division. Modifiers are also displayed below the progression bar.
"Some modifiers help provide transparency in the matchmaking for each match, like getting a boost when you defeat a team that was more favored to win," Blizzard explained. "While other modifiers show if your rank is calibrating, like going on a huge win streak, proving you belong in a higher rank."
Overwatch 2 placement matches
In addition to the new rank progression changes, competitive players can now do placement matches alongside the skill rank reset. This means you must begin your climb to the top by doing 10 all-new Overwatch 2 placement matches. This will determine your starting rank, and you'll have only one chance to do this in 2024.
"As you progress through placement matches, there will be a predicted starting rank after each match. You’ll only have one chance this year to run your Placement Matches, so pick your best heroes and stay hydrated because these games count for a lot," Blizzard stated.
Overwatch 2 Champion rank explained
The new Champion rank is above the Grandmaster one and below the Top 500 rank. Starting in Season 9, you can also earn some new Competitive Points and use them to purchase jade weapons.
Overwatch 2 Competitive Points explained
In terms of earning Competitive points, each victory now grants you 10 of them. Meanwhile, a draw results in five points and a loss results in no points.
"Every match grants progress toward your Competitive Progression meter, and after earning 30 you will receive an additional 100 Competitive Points," Blizzard added.
What happened to my old Overwatch 2 Competitive Points?
Your old Competitive Points have been converted into a legacy currency. After the 2024 competitive year ends, leftover Competitive Points will also be turned into the legacy currency.
