Overwatch 2 Season 9: Release date, ranked reset, jade weapons, hero, and more

Overwatch 2 Season 9 is almost here! Read on for everything you can expect in the new season, including information about the Overwatch 2 Season 9 release date, ranked rework, jade weapons, hero playtest for Venture, and potential Overwatch 2 Season 9 patch notes and leaks.

The new season of Overwatch 2 is slated for Feb. 13, according to the Season 9 trailer and the in-game Battle Pass. However, note that an email announcement stated that the new season is going to be Feb. 19.

During BlizzCon 2023, the game's developers stated that Overwatch 2 Season 9 will get a ranked reset alongside the return of placements. However, there will not be a full MMR reset. Under the new Overwatch 2 ranked system, your rank will be updated after every match as well. Your screen will have a progress bar to indicate this.

Emerald weapons, now known as jade weapons, will also be entering Overwatch 2 Season 9. These weapon skins will be obtainable through Competitive Points. However, your current Competitive Points will be converted into a legacy currency. This means you'll have to earn new Competitive Points in the new season.

The next Overwatch 2 hero will be Venture, who will also join the game's LGBTQ+ roster! Venture will arrive in Season 10. Like with Mauga, a playtest before a new season is possible.

Preview footage of Venture showed them bursting out from the ground and doing some additional damage. The hero also borrowed underground to get from one area to another. Additionally, the footage showcased Venture's vertical mobility, weapon that shoots a projectile, and more.

"The dig also — the most important part of this is it makes you invulnerable," Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller said during BlizzCon 2023. "So it's like you can't be hit when you're underground. It's a great way to escape. It's also a great way to get in close to players. You pop up like that."

According to Keller, every hero will get a self-healing passive in Overwatch 2 Season 9. This means tank and damage characters will be able to heal themselves. However, note that these heroes will have a tuned-down version of the current support roster's self-healing passive.

During a livestream, Overwatch 2 player Rupal "Rupal" Zaman appeared to have accidently leaked some patch notes. It is unknown whether or not these notes are real.
