Overwatch 2 joins Esports World Cup 2024

The inaugural Esports World Cup has added five more titles to its summer event. In addition to Overwatch 2, the Esports World Cup will feature Rainbow Six Siege (R6), PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), PUBG Mobile, and Garena Free Fire.

Overwatch 2 enters Esports World Cup

According to the Esports World Cup Foundation, Overwatch 2, R6, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, and Garena Free Fire will be featured at Esports World Cup 2024. This event will take place in the summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

An official announcement also revealed that the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) will include the opportunity to qualify for the Esports World Cup.

There were statistics provided by the announcement as well, including how R6 Six Invitational 2024 event achieved 521,323 online viewers during its grand final. Meanwhile, PUBG Mobile Global Championship Season 0 reached over 3.8 million peak viewers. Next, the PUBG Global Championship 2023 Grand Finals set a concurrent viewership record on its opening day. Additionally, Garena Free Fire had 5.4 million viewers who watched the 2021 Free Fire World Series tournament.

Overwatch 2, R6, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, and Garena Free Fire will join the Esports World Cup alongside Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), Dota 2, Honor of Kings, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), and StarCraft 2, bringing the total of announced esports titles to 10 so far. The Esports World Cup will host these video game communities and later crown the first-ever Esports World Cup Club Champion.

Esports World Cup welcomes FPS games

"First-person and tactical shooters are a cornerstone of gaming and esports and played by billions internationally,” Esports World Cup Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert said. “We’re bringing together all the best games, including these titles and the rest of our competitions, to connect an unprecedented variety of global communities. We’re excited to have them be a part of this first-of-its-kind event.”

The announcement revealed customized videos and graphics of specific locations to represent each participating game as well. These locations played a role in each game's esports history. Overwatch 2, for example, features Toronto, Canada.
