Arriving with the Season 6 Overwatch: Invasion patch, Flashpoint is a brand-new look for the game. Similar to a King of the Hill or Assault mode found in other games, the strategy will be different from Push or Control. How will Overwatch League players adapt to Flashpoint? What challenges will the teams face in light of a new mode?
The core things to know about Flashpoint includes:
- It's a brand new PVP core game mode
- Features two new locales
- Will be the biggest maps in the game to this point
- Teams fight for control of positions across the map called 'Flashpoints'
- Players win when they control 3 Flashpoints for enough time
Flashpoint will require Overwatch League players to coordinate how much force is placed on a single given Flashpoint. Additionally, large maps will give an advantage to speed-based and mobility characters such as Wrecking Ball, Tracer, and Symmetra.
It's entirely possible that Flashpoint will require very different playstyles for Overwatch League teams to find success. Meta compositions that work in Escort or Push won't necessarily work in Control. It also adds an interesting dynamic to the second half of the Overwatch League season. Flashpoint could be the ace in the hole for teams struggling against the teams that are better in the more conventional PVP modes.
Keep an eye out for more info on Flashpoint this Wednesday on the official Overwatch: Invasion livestream.
