PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022: Format, teams and stream

The PMWI 2022 is almost here with a total prize pool of $3 million. Here’s everything you need to know before the event.

The PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022 will happen from July 11 to 20 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The top teams from around the world will travel to the Middle Eastern country to compete in the event, which has adopted a unique format this year.

The PMWI is the first global LAN event for PUBG Mobile since 2019. The event will also be open to a live audience. Tencent has partnered with ESL and Gamers8 to produce the competition. Sony Xperia is the smartphone partner for the event. Thus players will likely use a Sony Xperia smartphone in the LAN tournament to compete against some of the world's best players.

Here is everything you need to know about PMWI 2022.

What's the PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022 schedule?

The PMWI will take place across two separate weeks. These are as follows:

  • Main Tournament: July 11 to 13
  • Afterparty Showdown: July 18 to 20

18 teams to compete in the Main Tournament

The PMWI Main Tournament will see 18 teams from regional leagues around the world compete for a share of the $2 million prize pool. Up until now, Tencent has been using 16-team lobbies in esports competitions. For the first time, fans will get to see an expanded lobby of 18 teams.

The 18 teams who have qualified for this event are as follows:

  • Falcons Esports
  • Regans Gaming
  • DAMWON Gaming
  • Donuts USG

Afterparty Showdown to feature a unique format

The PMWI’s Afterparty Showdown, which will take place from July 18 to 20, will only feature 12 teams competing for a $1 million prize pool. It’s unclear what the exact format for the event is yet, though. The teams may battle in PUBG Mobile’s smaller maps like Livik, which has been added to Southeast Asia's competitive pool in the Pro Leagues (PMPL).

The top five teams from the Main Tournament will qualify for the Afterparty Showdown. On top of this, five teams from different regions have received a direct invite based on an in-game voting session. One more team from India has qualified for the event, while the last team is an undisclosed special invite.

The teams in the PMWI Afterparty Showdown who have been confirmed so far are as follows:

  • S2G Esports
  • Alpha7 Esports
  • Bigetron RA
  • Deadeyes Guys
  • Team Ra’ad
  • 7Sea Esports
