League of Legends is finally bringing Shyvana into a new era with her long-awaited Visual and Gameplay Update (VGU). We’ll be comparing her old kit to the reworked version, while also highlighting the most significant changes, so you can be ready for her release.

Shyvana’s rework

The update will include changes to Shyvana’s kit, playstyle, skins, in-game model, and her lore. She is a half-dragon, always struggling with her identity and where she actually belongs. While she is often in her humanoid form, her true power comes with her devastating dragon form.

After she saved Crown Prince Jarvan IV, she earned a spot within the Demacia royal guard. Her loyalty is undeniable, but people still fear her due to her true nature. She must fight both on the battlefield and for acceptance in a conservative kingdom that remains uncertain about her power.

Dragon Form: Flame Breath explodes on impact or at the target location, dealing bonus damage and scorching the earth for a short duration.Shyvana launches a fireball that explodes upon striking a large target and slows them. In Dragon Form, it passes through and explodes upon striking large enemies, leaving behind a trail of fire.
R – Dragon’s DescentShyvana transforms into a dragon and takes flight to a target location. Enemies along her path take damage and are knocked toward her target location. Shyvana passively gains Fury per second and gains 2 Fury on basic attack.Shyvana transforms into a Dragon and leaps forward, fearing enemies along her path. While in Dragon form, she becomes larger and her basic abilities are empowered.

What has changed?

Before the rework, Shyvana mains wanted her Q preserved. It was a key way to stack Fury, and the double hit let her clear wards quickly. In the rework, the attack reset remains. It now includes faster recasts that scale with her attacks, allowing her to clear wards and apply on-hit effects just as easily. Additionally, it applies AoE damage for healthy clears.

Her passive was another part of her kit that deserved some attention. The passive will grant bonus Armor and Magic Resist based on the number of large minions and monsters Shyvana kills, rather than just dragons. Now, this also amplifies her W shield and grants more health in the dragon form.

As for the visual part, people wanted an epic dragon, and Riot Games delivered it. Her dragon form will be more dragon than ever, and when she attacks, you’ll see more of her claws, fangs, and wings. Her dragon form and dragon abilities will now increase with the rank of her ultimate.

“We still want Shyvana to find success, whether building as an AD or AP bruiser. That said, we know a few of you really loved to play magic artillery mage Shyvana, so we made sure to keep that playstyle intact, just not as her most optimal build path,” Riot Games developers mentioned during the devs’ video.
