LoL MSI 2024 BLG vs T1: Catch the wave to win

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (LoL MSI 2024) approaches its end. Gen.G Esports is already in the grand final, waiting for their opponents. The second team has been determined in the LoL MSI 2024 match BLG vs T1. Best-of-5 (Bo5) for the match between Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and T1 means that victory comes to a team that can secure three games. We may see some 3:0 sweeps in LoL MSI 2024. The whole LoL MSI 2024 BLG vs T1 match was back-and-forth. The teams looked strong and had their great moments. It felt like if one of them catches their wave, the opponents simply cannot stop them. This was especially obvious in game 3, where BLG eliminated T1 super quickly. But even in slower games, everything was up to a blasting  moment, when a small advantage turned into a destructive power.

Both teams rushed into game 1 quite aggressively, earning early kills. For a while, BLG and T1 played evenly in terms of kills and gold. After a big team fight, Bilibili Gaming started increasing their advantage. Sure, T1 is not an easy victim — the Korean team aced BLG quickly.

An even game continued. The teams fought and took objectives. T1 was somewhat better in team fights, but that did not allow them to go too much ahead in the champions’ power. After one of such mini-successes, T1 got overconfident and started Baron. BLG interfered, killed some opponents, and took Baron for themselves. BLG used this buff to push through mid, get some kills, and destroy some turrets.

Before fighting Ocean Drake, BLG removed one opponent. That helped them to secure the dragon and win the next big fight. Even without going for Baron, BLG initiated the base siege and won the game.

The teams exchanged kills at the very beginning, around minute 1. And then, T1 started successfully working on their advantage — they were around 3.5k gold ahead only on minute 12.

The game slowed down a bit after that. The players worked on earning gold and taking objectives. But even during this period, T1 looked someone better: they got Herald; Zeus performed an impressive solo kill. BLG got Cloud Drake but apparently couldn’t be competitive in team fights.

T1 sat on a 7k-gold advantage when Baron spawned. The Korean team obviously dominated the map and they stole a dragon. But the team fight after that went wrong for them. BLG eliminated four opponents. The tension increased around Baron, and despite the gold deficit, BLG looked pretty strong for the first time in this game… for just a little while.

T1 won a massive team fight and killed all opponents. They went for the base and destroyed the Nexus.

A promising start for T1 was destroyed pretty quickly. After a big team fight, BLG got a good gold and kill advantage. The Chinese players weren’t satisfied with this, and they performed an Ace in just a couple of minutes.

On minute 20, Bilibili Gaming pushed hard through the bot lane and destroyed the inhibitor there. Their advantage reached 13 kills and almost 10k gold. Two kills activated the next mass attack on T1’s base, and BLG unexpectedly quickly and dominantly won game 3.

The initial part of game 4 was filled with back-and-forth moments. The teams delivered crazy kills, but after a big fight on the bot lane, BLG was 4 kills ahead. Their gold lead wasn’t impressive at all, and then T1 suddenly went ahead in this parameter. 

This power balance remained relatively the same for quite a while in the mid-game. Both teams were farming thoroughly. At some point, T1 pushed through the mid lane, got three kills, and took Baron — right after his spawn. The Korean team started their buffed push through the bot lane, but… the game was suddenly paused. When the action continued, it didn’t look like T1 got a lot from their advantage. BLG successfully pushed them back (for now).

In just a few moments, the teams fought near Cloud Drake. T1 stole the dragon and killed four opponents. They started their siege cautiously but decided to reset and go for Baron first. T1 started Baron twice, but both times they were distracted by a team fight — no one was too victorious in them, even if T1 kept their advantage.

T1 went for the BLG’s base even in this situation and brought some destruction to the turrets and inhibitors. BLG was defending their structures pretty well. To start the next push, T1 trapped two opponents, eliminated the whole BLG team after that, and secured Baron and Cloud Drake. With this buff, they pushed through the bot lane and demolished the base — denying every hope for BLG. The match reached the decisive game.

The first blood happened rather late in this game — Faker got it at around minute 7. BLG responded quickly, getting a kill in a 2v2 fight on the bot lane. It felt like both teams wanted to play cautiously, slowly destroying turrets and pressuring opponents.

T1 decided to start to control the map, and they got a few kills in a team fight. Despite being equal in terms of kills, T1 got a 2k-gold advantage. They decided to deny Herald for BLG, but lost in that situation. The gold difference evaporated, and BLG went ahead with kills.

BLG became aggressive, initiated a fight, and killed two opponents, increasing their advantage. They farmed for a while and they took Inferno Drake. Both teams established their strong presence on mid, but both avoided too deadly engagements. At some point, BLG attacked, destroyed a turret, got a kill, and slew another Inferno Drake.

In a somewhat slow rotation across Summoner’s Rift, the players were mainly whirling around Baron. Finally, BLG secured him confidently and destroyed three opponents in the process. They pushed to T1’s immediately, and no one could stop their power.

The next (and final) opponent for Bilibili Gaming at the LoL MSI 2024 is Gen.G Esports. Can BLG deny the baggage of losing to this Korean team in the upper bracket final?

Traditionally, players of the winning team answer a few questions after a Mid-Season Invitational match. This time, we had a chance to hear from knight, the midlaned of BLG.

It’s interesting to know what the player feels about his personal growth since the previous MSI.

The Chinese team BLG had two victories in the bracket stage of LoL MSI 2024. Surprisingly, the closest one was against PSG Talon from the Pacific Region with the score of 3-2. After that, BLG faced T1 and won rather confidently with a 3-1.

In the upper bracket final, BLG played against Gen.G Esports. They started promisingly, winning Game 1. But then, there were three games in a row for Gen.G.

T1 is a defending World Champion, and we can certainly expect great things from this Korean team in LoL MSI 2024. Still, T1 did not get the LCK 1st seed and had to play through the play-in stage to reach the main one. They did it perfectly, having two clear victories against Estral Esports and FlyQuest.

In the bracket stage, T1 played against G2 twice, and they defeated the European team twice. The first victory was somewhat difficult, and both teams had chances for victory. The second match involved the destruction of G2 Esports.

In between those matches, T1 easily eliminated Team Liquid from LoL MSI 2024. Their match against BLG wasn’t that successful — T1 fell to the lower bracket after the upper bracket semifinal.

The eyes of the whole community are on the MSI 2024 grand final! After that match, the teams will return to competing in their regions.
