paiN Gaming and Vikings Esports: Fighting for redemption

Two minor regions are fighting for a spot on the Swiss Stage. There's no doubt that paiN Gaming is done losing. Always carrying the weight of losing in the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL) circuit to LOUD, paiN wants more than a brief appearance in LoL Worlds 2024. For the first time in nine years, paiN Gaming has qualified for Worlds — now, they’re ready to bring glory back to Brazilian LoL esports.

Vikings Esports started in competitive LoL in 2018 but disbanded in the same year. However, in 2023, Vikings Esports reappeared to shake up the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS). With a great 2024 on their backs — staying only behind GAM Esports — the Vietnamese team is here to prove their worth. Will they be able to break the second-place curse and advance to the next phase?

Worlds 2024 match recap: paiN Gaming vs Vikings Esports

Welcome to the match recap. Here are the key moments of paiN Gaming vs Vikings Esports games. The victory is Brazilian!

Game 1

As we saw in the first game of paiN Gaming against PSG Talon, the Brazilian team started slow, taking control of the game with almost no confrontation or mistakes. The first conflict was on the bot lane with an incredible paiN Gaming gank, and Shogun almost did not survive. But paiN was creating a lot of opportunities with a very oppressive bot lane. And Kuri meant business with that Neeko.

In a game with very interesting matchups picks such as Brand jungle, Udy top, or Kalista in the bot lane, paiN was paving their way to success by completing various and perfectly calculated plays. However, this game was not going to be easy with a scaling team from Viking Esports. The Brazilian support was unbelievable. All you could hear in the Riot Games Arena were the shouting of passionate fans.

Even though the Vikings seemed to regain control with a double kill from Nanaue's Udyr and a strong fight for the Drake, paiN's dominance was undeniable. Cariok was showing some nerves and failing some Skarner ultimates, but the team could still turn the tide. In an incredible fight, dyNquedo's Tristana stole the show. The Vikings fought hard to make a comeback, but there was nothing more they could’ve done.

Vikings Esports were in really bad shape. Meanwhile, dyNquedo went wild, taking everything he could — that was the Brazilian spirit and the strength of a minor region that no one saw coming. Mid-lane was an F1 track for paiN. The first game belonged to them. Victory secured!

Game 2

PaiN entered the second match with great confidence. They were looking for another victory to bring pride to their country. While Nanaue's K'Sante struggled in lane, the Vikings' bot lane was incredibly oppressive. One thing was clear: paiN were the kings of objectives, never missing a chance to capitalize. Their energy was at its peak!

Vikings were fighting and keeping the gold pretty balanced. In an extraordinary Drake fight, dyNquedo's Akali shined like never before. There were two kills by dyNquedo and an outstanding performance from Wizer's Jax with a triple kill. The Vikings were suddenly overwhelmed with problems to solve. Even though they tried to slow down the game, paiN created more opportunities to prove they were the stronger team.

With an incredible American Sniper performance from TitaN, the Vikings began to sense defeat. However, they didn't give up. The Vietnamese team did not stop fighting until the very end. paiN was clearing every objective on the map, dominating Summoner's Rift like titans. Speaking of TitaN, he kept eliminating everyone in his line of sight. There was nothing the Vikings could do to turn the game around. This was the Brazilian dance — the victory dance!

With this match concluded, Vikings Esports are heading back home. Meanwhile, paiN still has a shot at reaching the Swiss Stage. Their next game will be on Sept. 29 against Movistar Rainbow 7. It will be a battle for South American glory that you won’t want to miss. Stay tuned!
