Riot Games has officially announced that League of Legends is getting WASD controls. This is an alternative to the game's point-and-click system.

On Aug. 11, Riot Games announced that League of Legends will get WASD controls. According to the developers, this new system will make it more inviting to new players.
"We’ve seen that for new players, WASD is the most familiar control scheme for PC games today, and let’s be real, a lot of us instinctively put our fingers there when coming back to League after playing something else," the announcement explained.
As for the classic point-and-click system, it will not go anywhere.

Over the next several months, Riot Games will slowly roll out this new control scheme. Testing will begin soon in the public beta environment (PBE) and go on for multiple patches.
After the PBE run, the League of Legends WASD controls will head into the game's non-ranked modes. Then, it will have a global launch that will include professional and ranked play.
"At each step, we’ll pause to hear from you, refine features, and squash any bugs," Riot Games stated, adding that they will ensure neither control scheme has a clear advantage before WASD reaches ranked mode.
Riot Games will also monitor how WASD controls affect the balance between moving and attacking. For example, currently, they find it easier to kite with WASD controls compared to the point-and-click system. Therefore, the team will focus on feedback in this area and make adjustments to keep both control schemes fair.
