Which LoL Esports moment broke your heart the most?
League of Legends esports has been around for as long as the game has existed. This has given fans a lot to smile and cheer about, but also many that broke our hearts to watch. Here's our pick of the most heartbreaking LoL moments that almost had us running across the beach in despair.
Dyrus' farewell
Marcus "Dyrus" Hill had a tear-jerking interview during the League of Legends 2015 World Championship. TSM had just lost against LGD Gaming in the group stage, and their record of 1-5 meant they were far from qualifying to the next stage.
TSM was well-loved by fans. At this point, Dyrus has been the org's top-laner for almost four years. "I'm really sorry to all my fans... that I let you down," Dyrus said in his farewell interview. "I have nothing but my thanks for everyone. Now, it's time to open a new book. My story ends here."
Of course, the crowd chanted in his support, notably the TSM chant that holds a special place in many Western LoL fans' hearts.
Faker in Worlds 2017
In Worlds 2017, now four-time champion Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok was one step away from the trophy.

It was the grand final, and Samsung Galaxy was 2-0 up on SKT T1. It was match point - SKT had four Elemental Drakes on their side. However, Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk's Varus caught Faker's Karma with a flash-ult, eliminating the midlaner. This is what tipped the scales in SSG's favor and allowed them to complete the sweep against SKT, and they lifted the trophy at the end.
When the broadcast camera panned to SKT, the team was shown to be devastated. Faker, in particular, had his head in his hands. This was a heartbreaking moment not only for SKT's fans, but to all who sympathized with him as a competitor.

On the other side of Keria's anguish was Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu's tears of joy which also tugged at our heartstrings.
He started his professional career the same year Faker did. However, Deft's journey towards lifting the Summoner's Cup was less glitzy, and way more arduous. His emotions all came to a head when he was interviewed after the win against T1, and after finally becoming a World Champion after all these years.
