This is the first time an esports organization has signed Chovy for more than a year.

Gen.G has announced an extension of Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s contract by another year, providing him the stability needed to win the LCK title. With this extension, Gen.G becomes the first esports organization to have a contract with Chovy for more than a year.

“I was assured of a successful future with the team’s utmost support, and I decided to continue my journey with Gen.G,” Chovy said said in the press release. “I will do my best to repay the support from the team and fans, aiming for the championship title in the upcoming summer season.”

Starting his career with Griffin in 2018, Chovy quickly established himself as one of the best players in the League. He has moved to a new team every year. He went from Griffin to DRX and then to Hanwha Life Esports in November 2020. After completing his one year stint with Hanwha, Chovy joined Gen.G in 2021. Gen.G have now announced they are extending Chovy’s contract beyond November 2022 for another year.

“I am thrilled that Chovy trusted us throughout the Spring Split and into our long-term vision for the LoL team and esports program in general,” said Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G. “This guy isn’t just good, he’s a game changer. Any chance you have to sign a superstar like him, you have to take it.”

Gen.G Chovy: A storied career that now finds stability

In his first year with Griffin, Chovy led them to a second place finish in LCK 2018. They lost 2:3 in the Grand Finals to KT Rolster. During the rest of the year, the team also performed well, however, often losing to Gen.G towards the end of tournaments.

With DRX he finished in the top three during both Summer and Spring 2020, highlighting his potential as one of the best mid lakers in the scene. Earlier this year, Gen.G finished second in the LCK Spring Split, losing to T1. With the contract extension, Chovy will find the stability in his career, one that might propel him to dominate his peers in the LCK.

Gen.G will play its next LCK Summer 2022 match on June 16 vs KT Rolster.
