FNC Poby spoke with esports.gg about his time with the team, the LEC season, overcoming the language barrier, and his Worlds 2025 debut.
Yoon “Poby” Sung-won made his move to FNATIC (FNC) midway through the 2025 season and is now preparing for his first appearance at the League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds). A product of the T1 Academy, Poby drew attention early on for his sharp mechanics and confident playstyle. His impressive growth earned him a temporary spot on T1’s main roster, where he stepped in as mid laner.
His first opportunity to shine will be against CTBC Flying Oyster on Oct. 15, 2025, at 11 p.m. PT (previous day) / 2 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. CEST. As always, you can find everything you need to know about the LoL Worlds 2025 event on the official esports.gg hub.
The rising star from T1 Academy
Poby joined the T1 Rookies in 2021 and quickly showcased his potential in the bot lane. Known for his strong laning phase and versatile champion pool, the young talent has shown steady improvement over the years. After his time with T1 Challengers, he was called up to the main roster to temporarily replace Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok during his injury. Although the team’s overall results during that period were mixed, Poby impressed many with his composure and promise as an emerging rookie.
Then came the shocking announcement. Fnatic had signed Poby as their new mid laner, replacing Marek “Humanoid” Brázda, who had been with the team since 2022. Not many fans were convinced, but it didn't take long for Poby to showcase his potential. "The Killable Demon Prince" shocked everyone with two victories and two MVPs against Team Heretics and SK Gaming. Now, the 19-year-old player is willing to show his true colors in the LoL Worlds 2025 for the first time in the tournament.
FNC Poby debuts in the LoL Worlds 2025
Sofia: This is your first LoL Worlds tournament. How are you feeling, and what are the expectations?
FNC Poby: Honestly, I didn’t expect to make it to Worlds this quickly. I’m just really happy to be here, and I want to make the most of this opportunity, learn as much as I can, and do my best.
Sofia: This is also your first international stage with FNATIC. Did your teammates share any words of encouragement before your journey to China?
FNC Poby: Yeah, my teammates, my older bros, have a lot of experience with international tournaments. They told me there’s really nothing special about it. You just have to focus, do what you do best, and get the job done.
Sofia: Being a young player on such a big stage can be overwhelming, and being nervous is completely normal. How do you manage your emotions?
FNC Poby: I think it’s important to recognize the pressure and the nerves, but I’ll do my best to enjoy the match and have fun out there.
Breaking language barriers and finding Fnatic’s rhythm
Sofia: What lessons from the LEC Split are you taking with you into this tournament?
FNC Poby: After joining the LEC and getting experience from scrims and stage games, I learned a lot about my mindset and mental strength. Playing with all the veterans on our team really taught me how to stay calm when things don’t go well. That’s been the biggest thing for me.
Sofia: How do you evaluate your performance during the Split, and do you think you have already fully adapted to the team's strategy?
FNC Poby: I think during the regular season, my communication wasn’t perfect. There were times when it made things a bit awkward in-game, and I couldn’t completely focus on playing my own game. So I wouldn’t rate myself too high. I still have regrets, especially not being able to take down teams like G2 or MKOI.
Sofia: Your coordination with Razork has been notable, and that is reflected in your good performances. How do you maintain that mid-jungler synergy on point?
FNC Poby: Outside of the game, when I was trying to adjust to the new environment, Razork helped me a lot. He really supported me and made it easier to settle in, and I’m very grateful to him. As for our in-game synergy, I think there’s still plenty of room to improve, and we’ll keep working on it together.
Sofia: Fnatic has such a big history and even a Worlds title. Do you feel any pressure playing under that legacy?
FNC Poby: For me, the most important thing is what’s best for the team. Our fans are always supporting us, and that really motivates me to do better. I think as long as we keep preparing and pushing each other to be our best, we’ll be ready for anything.
Poby hopes for a chance to face T1 and learn from Faker
Sofia: You've come a long way from training in the T1 Academy, and now you might even face them in the tournament. If you ran into Faker in the halls, what would you want to say to him?
FNATIC Poby: It’d be a real honor to play T1 on stage. I just hope we have a great match, and I hope I can learn a lot from you.
Sofia: Which teams or players would you like to play in the tournament?
FNC Poby: I’d love to face T1 on stage. And if I had to choose one player to meet or play against, it would definitely be Bdd. He’s been performing so consistently well this season, and he’s always been my role model.
Sofia: Which message do you want to leave for the fans supporting?
FNC Poby: Thank you all so much for your support. Since we’ve made it to Worlds, I’ll do my best to show great performances and make sure your support truly pays off!
