New content for Mercenaries, the Arena rotation, PvE content, and more with Hearthstone’s latest patch

The 23.4 Hearthstone patch brings tons of new content for Mercenaries, Arena, and even PvE adventurers. Esportsgg goes over the details.

Hearthstone Mercenaries got a ton of new content in this patch. On top of that, Hearthstone players can now enjoy the new Book of Heroes: Faelin, a brand new PvE adventure. Furthermore, Arena will see its regular set rotation. We have already covered the Throne of the Tides Mini-Set and Battlegrounds changes. Let’s now go over the massive Mercenaries update.

Hearthstone Mercenaries Updates

Hearthstone's newest game-mode addition, Mercenaries, is getting a major content update with this patch. New Mercenaries, a limited-time event, more Bounties, and extra features are coming to the game. What’s more, Mercenaries fans can now claim for Free the new Tyrael Mercenary in the shop.

New Limited-Time Hearthstone Mercenaries Event: Y’Shaarj

N’Zoth time is over in Mercenaries. Now, a new Hearthstone Old God is taking over. Y’Shaarj’s Hearthstone Mercenaries event will start on June 7 and will consist of 10 special tasks centered around the Old God.

These special tasks can be unlocked periodically, two per day on the first five days of the event. Hearthstone players will have until June 21 to complete all 10 Mercenaries tasks. Upon completion, players will get the following loot:

  • The Y’Shaarj Mercenary
  • A random Golden Y’Shaarj Portrait
  • Diamond Y’Shaarj Portrait
  • 750 Mercenaries Coins

After this Hearthstone Mercenaries special event, Y’Shaarj, its portraits, and coins will be obtainable through packs. Just like it happened with N’Zoth’s event.

New Hearthstone Mercenaries with the 23.4 Patch

On top of the Free Tyrael Mercenary, other 17 new characters are coming to the game with the Hearthstone 23.4 Patch. The full details of every character are available in the official blog post. Nevertheless, here you have a general breakdown of the Mercenary types coming.

  • 5 New Fighters: Legendary: Tyrael; Epics: Lady Vashj, Elise Starseeker, and Yrel; Rare: Lord Slitherspear
  • 7 New Casters: Legendary: Queen Azshara and Reno Jackson; Epic: Zar’Jira, the Sea Witch, Captain Hooktusk, Maestra, Lorewalker Cho; Rare: Patches the Pirate
  • 6 New Protectors: Legendary: Y’Shaarj and Maiev Shadowsong; Epic: Brann Bronzebeard; Rare: Fathom-Lord Karathress, Tidemistress Athissa, Baine Bloodhoof

New Mercenaries Zones and Bounties

Alongside the 18 new Mercenaries and the Y’Shaarj special event, the 23.4 Hearthstone patch also brings a new Zone with more Bounties. Darkshore will have three new Bounties, and a new Sunken City Zone also arrives at the game with 10 more Bounties.

As always, every time new content is added to the game mode, the same questions arise. When will players see some solution to the coin problem Hearthstone Mercenaries have? Moreover, the Pack system is seen by some players as inefficient.

During the Year of the Hydra presentation, Ben Lee, former Game Director, addressed these topics and mentioned that they are working on bringing a solution soon. This message has been replicated but with no precise release date. The game has been out for almost a year now, so players expect changes sooner rather than later.

Arena Rotation with Hearthstone Patch 23.4

Hearthstone Arena is an old yet popular game mode with a solid fanbase with many free-to-play grinders. To keep the experience fresh and balanced, on top of including the current year expansions, the team rotates the available sets.

With Hearthstone Patch 23.4, the Arena rotation will happen, and these sets will make up the Arena card pool:

  • Core
  • The Boomsday Project
  • Descent of Dragons
  • Forged in the Barrens
  • United in Stormwind
  • Fractured in Alterac Valley
  • Voyage to the Sunken City (including the new Throne of the Tides Mini-Set)

Many micro-adjustments are made along the way, so make sure to follow Matt London, Modes Design Lead for Hearthstone, on Twitter. He has recently given some insights about the Hearthstone Arena Rotation and the Book of Heroes: Faelin.

Book of Heroes: Faelin, a massive solo content update!

Last but not least, the new Book of Heroes PvE adventure comes with a ton of replayable content for Hearthstone players. On top of learning Ambassador Faelin’s story, players will be able to rip off some free packs and a special card back upon completion.

The Book of Heroes: Faelin will make you experience the dangerous Voyage to the Sunken City of Zin-Azsahri. What mysteries and secrets lay on the bottom of the sea? To find out the full story, players will be able to select three different characters to explore.

Upon completing the 17 missions for the first time, players will get the Ghost Ship card back. Completing the missions once again with a different character will reward a Standard pack. Finally, after completing the missions with all three characters, players will earn a Voyage to the Sunken City card pack, and invaluable knowledge about Ambassador Faelin's history.

This is all for the Hearthstone 23.4 patch update regarding Arena, Mercenaries, and Book of Heroes content. However, if you are thirsty for more info and want to check the details about the Throne of the Tides Mini-Set or the Battelgrounds updates including the return of Diablo, I recommend you to check our dedicated article on the topic!
